Job description

We're hiring an entrepreneurial engineering leader for the Code Services team in Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX). We own all source control at Amazon - GitFarm, GitHub, and GitLab - the foundational infrastructure where every line of Amazon code lives. Amazon builds on our platforms - literally. Millions of repositories, hundreds of thousands of production systems, and every AI agent writing code at Amazon today push changes to infrastructure we own and operate. Our GitLab instance is one of the largest GitLab installations in the world. When Amazon builds, it starts with us.
AI is transforming who builds and how they build at Amazon. Engineers, AI agents, and automated systems are pushing code, creating repositories, and interacting with source control at unprecedented scale - billions of code operations flow through our platforms every month. The Code Services team is at the center of this shift - we build the infrastructure that makes agentic development possible while operating the platforms that must remain rock-solid as usage patterns fundamentally change. We are an AI-native team: our AI operations agent autonomously resolves the majority of customer issues and self-improves over time, our roadmap is shaped by the agentic developer future, and we ship fast by practicing what we build.
Key job responsibilities
- Drive technical strategy, design, development, and operations for Amazon's source control platforms - GitFarm, GitHub, and GitLab - serving the entire Amazon builder ecosystem.
- Hire, retain, and grow top engineering talent; build a high-performing team capable of operating critical infrastructure at Amazon scale while shipping innovative new capabilities.
- Own the product roadmap for your area, working with senior leadership to define strategy that balances platform reliability, scalability, and the evolving needs of AI-native development.
- Architect solutions that scale with Amazon's growth - millions of repositories, hundreds of thousands of developers, and an expanding population of AI agents and automated systems interacting with source control.
- Drive AI-native operations and tooling - from AI-assisted incident resolution to enabling agentic workflows that depend on programmatic source control access.
- Obsess over the developer experience for Amazon's diverse builder community - from principal engineers managing monorepos to product managers shipping their first automation.
- Collaborate across ASBX and partner teams to deliver a unified, secure, and seamless source control experience across all platforms.
- Operate critical developer infrastructure with the highest bar for availability, security, and performance.
A day in the life
As an SDM in ASBX Code Services, you balance platform engineering, product thinking, and people leadership. You work with internal customers across Amazon to understand how source control needs are evolving - whether that's scaling for monorepo workloads, enabling AI agents to interact with code safely, or onboarding new platforms like GitLab. You lead your team through planning, design, and delivery while ensuring operational excellence for services that cannot go down. You grow engineers into leaders and foster a culture where AI is a force multiplier, not a buzzword.
About the team
The ASBX Code Services team owns the infrastructure where all Amazon code lives. GitFarm - Amazon's internal SCM - hosts millions of repositories and serves the majority of Amazon's builders. GitHub Enterprise manages Amazon's external open-source presence and internal private repositories - powering how Amazon collaborates with the global developer community across platforms like GitHub, npm, and PyPI, while supporting thousands of enterprise users internally. GitLab extends our platform portfolio for customer-facing and cross-organizational workloads, serving one of the largest GitLab installations in the world. We are an AI-native team. Our operations agent resolves the majority of customer issues autonomously and self-improves over time. We are pushing the boundaries of service performance, building for the agentic developer era, and scaling platforms that are foundational to everything Amazon ships.

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
