We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated data governance specialist who will help transform our data protection landscape by translating policy requirements into real-time protection mechanisms with appropriate lifecycle management and oversight to ensure data is sufficiently protected as it is created shared across our ecosystem.


We assess risk, classify data and systems, scale adoption through automation and enable the business to guard the confidentiality and integrity of Amazon and customer data while creating a seamless experience for our stakeholders. Our mission includes instilling awareness to safeguard all customer and employee data, applications, services, and assets. To accomplish this, we work with Amazon organizations to build security best practices into enterprise-wide systems.


Our guidance and leadership equip our partners to maintain high security standards. This team dives deep into security technologies and continuously raises the security bar across Amazon by tackling complex problems that require widespread support and multi-year execution plans. Amazon Stores Security is looking for a Data Protection Specialist to work across Regulation Tech and Assurance and our broader Stores Security organization to translate policy and control requirements for technology consumption, identify additional capabilities to scale coverage, deploy governance models and validate intended outcomes are achieved.

This role is foundational to support cross-functional initiatives to integrate data protection into tools and processes and reduce the burden of compliance with novel solutions while maintaining customer trust. In this Data Protection Specialist role, you will work with cross-functional teams of technical and non-technical key stakeholders to define and operationalize strategy and interpret, communicate, and drive full lifecycle security projects.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop and implement scalable solutions leveraging automation and intelligence;
- Deliver governance authority for scoping data protection controls;
- Define industry-leading control requirements in innovative surfaces
- Work cross-functionally with product and tech partners to embed policy and control requirements into tools and processes;
- Monitor effectiveness of deployments and implement improvements;
- Proactively identify and resolve challenges and issues that may impair the team's ability to meet strategic, business, and technical goals;
- Understand Business Information Security Risk and provide insights for resource prioritization;
- Understand and manage cross-functional requirements to translate them into an optimal solution. Be comfortable with hands-on day-to-day problem solving and implementing quick and effective action plans to meet short- and long-term priorities.
