What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Amazon Picker, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Amazon Picker, you need strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to follow instructions, typically requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with handheld barcode scanners, warehouse management systems, and inventory tracking tools is commonly expected. Reliability, time management, and teamwork are crucial soft skills for excelling in this fast-paced environment. These skills ensure accurate order fulfillment, operational efficiency, and a safe, productive workplace.

Will Amazon pay you $28 an hour to work from home?

Amazon Picker roles typically do not pay $28 an hour and are usually based in warehouses rather than remote work. Most warehouse positions offer hourly wages below that amount, and work from home options are limited to specific roles such as customer service or technical support. Compensation varies by location, experience, and role requirements.

What does an Amazon Picker do?

An Amazon Picker is responsible for locating and retrieving items from shelves in an Amazon warehouse to fulfill customer orders. They use handheld scanners or mobile devices to receive picking instructions and ensure the correct products are selected. The role involves walking through large warehouse areas, picking items efficiently, and placing them in bins or totes for packing and shipping. Attention to detail and accuracy are vital to ensure the right products are shipped to customers. Pickers also help maintain inventory accuracy and may assist with other warehouse tasks as needed.

Does Amazon pay $1000 a week?

Amazon Picker positions typically pay hourly wages that may total around $300 to $600 per week for full-time work, depending on hours worked and location. Earning $1000 a week would generally require overtime or additional shifts, which are not guaranteed and depend on staffing needs and individual schedules.

What is a typical workday like for an Amazon Picker, and how is performance measured?

As an Amazon Picker, your day involves locating products within the warehouse using handheld scanners and preparing them for shipment. Expect to spend most of your shift on your feet, moving between aisles and handling a high volume of orders. Performance is often measured by the number of items picked per hour and accuracy in selecting the correct products. Teamwork is important, as pickers coordinate with packers and supervisors to ensure orders are fulfilled efficiently. While the pace can be fast and physically demanding, strong performers may have opportunities to advance to lead or supervisory positions.

How much do you make as a picker at Amazon?

Amazon pickers typically earn around $15 to $20 per hour, depending on location, experience, and shift. The role involves using handheld scanners and working in a warehouse environment, often with performance-based incentives. Wages can vary based on regional pay scales and company policies.

Does Amazon pay $30 an hour?

Amazon Picker roles typically pay around the minimum wage or slightly above, with pay rates varying by location and experience. The average hourly wage for Amazon warehouse associates is generally between $15 and $20, and $30 an hour is not common for this position. Higher wages may be available for specialized roles or with overtime, but $30 per hour is not standard for Amazon Picker jobs.

Are you a hands-on builder who wants to travel the country and get paid well to do it?

We fly you to the job. We pay for your hotel. We send you home every 6 weeks. All you bring is your work ethic.

What You Get

✔ Flights to every job site paid

✔ Hotel room provided — never pay for lodging

✔ Daily per diem on top of your wages

✔ Local transportation arranged at each job site

✔ Fly home approximately every 6 weeks for 3–4 days (project dependent)

✔ Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance

✔ Retirement plan

About the Role

This is a 100% travel-based, full-time permanent position. You will be deployed to job sites across the United States, where you and a team of fellow installers will build out large-scale robotic warehousing and fulfillment center equipment. Projects typically run 16–20 weeks. You will not work locally — this role requires full-time travel as a lifestyle, and we support that with everything you need covered.

You’ll work alongside a Project Manager and a skilled crew of Installers, leading and working alongside temporary workers on site. The work is hands-on, physical, and technically detailed — you’ll assemble and install advanced robotic picking stations along with automated product storage and retrieval systems, while performing general construction and mechanical assembly tasks.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform repetitive assembly and installation of robotic warehousing equipment per project specifications
  • Use hand and power tools, hardware, and low-voltage wiring components as required
  • Fasten and anchor components to various surfaces and substrates to meet project standards
  • Take and apply accurate measurements throughout the build process
  • Apply tape (using 5S method), stickers, and labels per assignment requirements
  • Inventory and stage materials using effective space management techniques
  • Lead and work alongside temporary workers on site, directing daily tasks
  • Attend daily stand meetings; lead meetings when required
  • Communicate daily with Project Management on scope, blockers, and progress
  • Maintain clean, organized work and storage areas at all times
  • Conduct daily vehicle and equipment inspections as required
  • Document and report all issues, anomalies, and client interactions to your supervisor
  • Complete accurate and timely timekeeping every day

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in precise, high-quality work, thrives in a team, and is genuinely excited by the opportunity to travel and build things. If you have a background in construction, manufacturing, assembly, the military, or skilled trades, we want to hear from you.

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience or competency in basic construction, assembly, or installation work
  • Proficiency with common hand tools and power tools
  • Knowledge of hardware, mechanical components, and low-voltage wiring (as scope requires)
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal procedures accurately
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and high standards for quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid ID permitting domestic travel
  • Must be 18 years or older and legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Personal smartphone for business communication
  • Ability to work 12+ hour shifts and adapt to changing project priorities
  • Comfort working in construction environments, varying temperatures, and at heights up to 40 feet
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds repeatedly; frequent squatting, kneeling, and bending
  • Full-time travel commitment — you understand and accept that this role requires living away from home for extended periods

Strongly Preferred (not required):

  • Prior experience in a full-time traveling position — you know what living out of a hotel means and you’re comfortable with it
  • Military background — veterans with mechanical, electrical, or technical MOS experience are an excellent fit
  • Background in warehouse construction, robotic system installation, or Amazon/fulfillment center buildouts
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Basic computer software skills

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1+ year of related experience in light construction, assembly, installation, or low-voltage work preferred

Understanding the Travel Commitment

Please read this carefully before applying.

This is a full-time, nationwide travel position. You will NOT work in your home city or return home on weekends. Projects are located across the United States. You will be based at a hotel near each job site for the duration of the project (typically 16–20 weeks), then deployed to the next project location.

Here’s exactly what that looks like:

  • We fly you to each project location
  • We book and pay for your hotel room for the entire project
  • We arrange local transportation at the job site
  • We fly you home for 3–4 days approximately every 6 weeks (project dependent)

This lifestyle works best for people who are genuinely excited about travel, are comfortable with extended time away from home, and thrive in a close-knit team environment. If that’s you, this can be an exceptional career opportunity.
