Job Title:  Material Handler 1
Duration: 12 months
Location: San Diego Ca 92130
Pay Range: XX27XX on W2
Shift Time: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (M-F)
Description:
We are seeking a Material Coordinator to support efficient workflow within our production environment. This role ensures the timely movement, stocking, and organization of materials to keep operations running smoothly. Materials to be delivered include buffers manufactured in-house, raw material deliveries received at the dock, other assorted packages delivered (Amazon, Staples, non-lab items). The ideal candidate will have experience in material handling, inventory management, and supporting lean manufacturing principles. Must be able to keep accurate records and have good customer service skills. Intermediate computer/data entry skills required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted, have a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record. This position may require the use of a company vehicle to pick up and transport supplies between buildings.

Job Responsibilities: (Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)
·         Maintain a steady flow of materials to production lines, R&D, and quality control to minimize downtime
·         Sign for materials received, check goods against packing slips and follow procedures for processing materials that do not match or are damaged.
·         Log all incoming materials including supplier, tracking#, recipient, date received, and storage temperature.
·         Collaborate with production teams to identify and resolve material shortages.
·         Assist with unloading of materials from delivery vehicles, verify materials against purchase orders and perform data entry into SAP.
·         Process and deliver materials to appropriate personnel.
·         Ensure proper handling and storage of incoming chemical, biological, and hazardous materials.
·         Ensure appropriate handling and timely delivery of packages, research animals, in-house stock requests, and time/temperature sensitive materials to requesters, and designated drop of points at various on/off site locations.
·         Distribution of Copy Paper to designated locations.
·         Maintain inventory of all necessary supplies used by the department.
·         Participates in required training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work and brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management.
·         Participates in all required workplace safety meetings and training and remains current in knowledge of SOP’s and programs relating to health and safety.
·         Notifies Supervisor or designee of problem situations in a timely manner. 
·         Maintains warehouse areas in a clean and orderly manner.
·         Provides accurate, timely, and courteous service to all customers.
·         Follows BD Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures. Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area. Participates in EH&S programs. Notifies supervisors of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.
·         Work within a Lean Manufacturing environment to optimize processes.
·         Performs other related duties and assignments as designated by Supervisor.

Education and Experience:
•       Requires a high school diploma and 2 – 4 years experience in materials distribution (shipping/receiving/inventory) or equivalent combination of related education and experience. Receiving of temperature sensitive products is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
·         Must have good inter-personal, communication, and customer service skills.
·         Ability to utilize computer systems, Excel, Word, other software packages. Familiarity with SAP and/or Lotus Notes is preferred. 
·         Ability to follow established policies and procedures. Strong verbal communication skills required. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Basic mathematical skills are required.
·         Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
·         Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
