Job description

Amazon builds fast - and behind every new Fulfilment Center, Sortation Center, and Delivery Station is a cost estimate that had to be accurate, defensible, and ready when decisions need to be made. We're looking for a Cost Engineering Manager who will deliver construction cost engineering services to Amazon's North America Design & Construction stakeholders - producing the estimates, cost models, and analytical outputs that inform capital investment decisions across Amazon's NA infrastructure network.
This role is high-impact, high-variety, and technically demanding. You'll deliver a range of estimates, across a diverse portfolio of NA building types and project scopes - from multi-site retrofit programs to one-off capital projects - where site conditions, design parameters, and scope ambiguity make every engagement a unique analytical problem. You'll work from early concept sketches through bid-ready construction documents, applying construction domain expertise to produce cost intelligence that directly shapes business outcomes.
The core deliverable is construction cost estimates - and the role is within Amazon's Global Procurement Organization, Sourcing Excellence pillar, which means you'll also have the opportunity to expand into broader cost engineering disciplines: should-cost modeling that anchors supplier negotiations, and value engineering initiatives that challenge specifications and drive design-to-cost outcomes. You will work closely with AI and Market Intelligence Solutions, leveraging AI-powered tools daily to accelerate analysis, build scalable costing datasets, and contribute to the development of next-generation automation that multiplies the team's reach.
Key job responsibilities
Deliver independent, bottom-up construction cost estimates for NA Design & Construction stakeholders across Amazon's building portfolio - spanning retrofit, expansion, and new-build scopes across multiple building types and network segments
Develop cost estimates from early-stage concept inputs through RFP-ready construction drawing sets, adapting methodology and analytical depth to available information at each project phase
Build and maintain programmatic estimating templates for multi-site programs (such as interior renovations, mechanical system replacements) where scope consistency allows template-driven efficiency
Produce one-off bottom-up estimates for projects where unique site conditions, non-standard design, and scope ambiguity demand deep analytical judgment (such as automation retrofits, site hardening, ad-hoc retrofit requests)
Generate high-level ROMs for early-stage project exploration when data is limited and design direction is still evolving
Leverage AI-powered tools as a default part of your workflow - using automation for data gathering, cost benchmarking, and pattern recognition while applying expert judgment on complex, ambiguous scopes
Contribute to the development of scalable AI solutions by curating project data, validating model outputs, and identifying where automation can absorb routine estimation work
Collaborate with preconstruction managers, design engineers, and category managers to gather site-specific inputs, validate assumptions, and communicate cost risks
Peer review estimates and cost models produced by teammates to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with current market pricing
Maintain and update cost data libraries as required with latest market bids, labor rates, and material pricing to keep cost intelligence grounded in reality
Over time, expand into should-cost modeling, benchmarking, and value engineering activities on construction projects as part of the broader Cost Engineering services within Sourcing Excellence pillar

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, Development Manager, Owner's project management representative or in other Commercial Development and Construction related disciplines
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience operating within at least two disciplines within the construction industry, such as Contracting, Owners Representation, Architecture, Design and Engineering, Commercial Development, analysis and control of construction costs or similar
- Experience in project management in construction and contracts management
- AI&Automation: Comfortable working with AI and automation as a default part of your workflow - not as an experiment, but as how things get done. You should be willing to use AI-powered tools for cost benchmarking, estimating, modelling and pattern recognition, curate project data to feed scalable models, validate automated outputs with expert judgment, and identify where automation can absorb routine work so you can focus on the complex and ambiguous. Experience contributing to AI tool development in an estimating or procurement context is a strong differentiator.
- Data Management & Cost Estimation Software
- Experience managing structured cost data and supporting back-end estimation workflows - organizing inputs, maintaining cost libraries, and ensuring data integrity across project portfolios. Proficiency with CostX or equivalent takeoff and cost modeling software is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Amazon's internal estimating systems and tools is a plus but not required; what matters most is a demonstrated ability to pick up new platforms quickly and maintain discipline in data management practices.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
