Job description

Amazon is seeking a Senior Systems Development Engineer to support the Amazon Logistics Worldwide Central Engineering engineering team. This individual will challenge current processes, equipment, procedures, and electrical/controls specifications in our delivery stations, in order to come up with creative and implementable process improvement initiatives with a focus on AB PLC/HMI and vision systems development

This Senior Systems Development Engineer will contribute to all aspects of an agile systems development life cycle including design, architecture, development, documentation, testing and operations. This position will be responsible for designing, managing and executing the next generation of delivery station processes, equipment, and operations. This is a unique opportunity to own new innovative projects that will advance the intelligence of our last mile business.
Key job responsibilities
Senior Controls Engineer responsible for designing and developing industrial control systems and PLC programs for Material Handling Equipment (MHE) across Amazon Logistics North America.
Core Technical Responsibilities:
- Design and implement complex control systems using Allen Bradley PLCs and CODESYS
- Develop hardware/firmware interfaces and IoT solutions
- Create and maintain PLC/IPC/HMI software and vision systems
- Establish electrical and controls design standards
- Implement system health monitoring and self-healing automation
Project Leadership:
- Manage multiple high-visibility projects simultaneously
- Lead technical design reviews for control systems and simulations
- Coordinate with global design teams and vendors
- Drive process improvements and technical implementation
- Review and integrate new MHE technologies
Technical Expertise:
- Industrial networks (Ethernet, safety over ethernet IP)
- Material handling control systems
- IPCs and barcode scanners
- Advanced technology applications
- Conveyor hardware integration
Must demonstrate deep technical knowledge and ability to influence cross-functional teams while maintaining effective communication with internal and external partners.

Your work is very hands-on and multi-disciplinary

You will be working closely with vendors, cross-functional engineers, and project teams. You lead design reviews, write and troubleshoot PLC code and IPC based code such as CODESYS, documents, demonstrate proof-of-concepts, build prototypes, and manage stakeholder expectations.
