* This is a night shift position that starts around 6:00PM.

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for evaluating and repairing the items listed on the Vehicle Condition Reports that are within their skill level. They have the responsibility of performing and completing the inspection, oil changes and chassis lubrication according to company procedure. Will on a weekly basis, perform a general inspection on vehicles parked in the yard for damages and other minor defects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete the work assigned in the time allotted.
  • Apply lubricants to the moving parts of vehicle engines to prevent premature failure
  • Lubricate wheel bearings to prevent excessive tire wear.
  • Perform engine cleanings to prevent rust formation.
  • Replace cabin, fuel, air, and oil filters as required.
  • Perform tire rotations to ensure even tire wear.
  • Test tire pressure and adding air as needed.
  • Thoroughly inspect customers' vehicles for oil leaks.
  • Make recommendations for additional servicing based on initial vehicle inspections.
  • Notify the Service Advisor when vehicle maintenance or servicing cannot be
  • completed within scheduled timeframes.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the fleet road equipment including tractor, trailer, and service vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations.
  • Document, complete, and keep current the maintenance logs for all repairs and parts used daily.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace and complete all required repairs on diesel equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance within company standards.
  • Complete documentation of all repair orders, PM list and parts accountability.
  • Handle road service calls; perform road rescue/transport equipment as needed. Keep track of assigned repairs by logging in and out of the proprietary fleet maintenance system.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations and government guidelines.
  • Maintain inventory and proper recordkeeping.
  • Other duties may be assigned as business needs require.

COMPETENCIES/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred but not mandatory (2) years verifiable hands-on experience with Diesel Mechanic Certification.
  • Successfully demonstrated independent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must furnish own personal hand tools.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL A and DOT certified preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is advantageous.
  • Must be able to communicate with Skilled Service Technicians for assistance and guidance on repair items that may cause him insecurities or concern.
  • Be able to perform basic welding skills
  • Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations as pertaining to the shop and fleet.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate with co-workers and drivers with demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Computer and software experience.
