Job description

Ready to be at the forefront of innovation in K-12 education technology? Lightspeed Systems, serving millions of students and educators with a rapidly growing product line, is seeking a User Acceptance Testing QA Engineer to join our dynamic team. We offer more than just a job-this is an opportunity to grow your career, be recognized for your hard work, and thrive in a supportive and collaborative office environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You'll play a critical role in test planning, execution, coordination with cross-functional teams, and ensuring every release meets the high bar our educators expect.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and executing comprehensive test plans and strategies with a focus on teacher and student workflows across Chrome, web, and real-time messaging surfaces.
  • Actively participating in Agile Scrum ceremonies, story definitions, and sprint planning alongside product and engineering teams.
  • Developing test scenarios from Epics, User Stories, and acceptance criteria, paying particular attention to multi-device, multi-student edge cases that mirror real classroom conditions.
  • Identifying, reproducing, and documenting defects with exceptional precision and detail; collaborating with developers and stakeholders for timely resolution.
  • Managing UAT environments, triaging issues, and ensuring optimal test coverage across supported platforms (ChromeOS, Windows, Mac) and varying network configurations typical of school environments.
  • Maintaining and updating the defect backlog using JIRA.
  • Coordinating UAT test efforts with internal teams, customers, and external partners, including gathering feedback from educators and district IT administrators.
  • Producing test metrics and delivering detailed reports to drive improvements.
  • Supporting production releases and managing the escalation process during support events.
  • Validating real-time features such as screen monitoring, screen sharing, device lock, link pushing, and messaging to ensure reliability under realistic classroom-scale conditions.

NOTE:

  • This is a hybrid position and several days each week will be required onsite at our Austin, Texas headquarters.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position.

ABOUT YOU

To excel as a QA Engineer on our team, you should have:

  • A meticulous, detail-obsessed approach to testing-you catch the subtle regressions and interaction quirks that others miss.
  • An understanding of how teachers actually use classroom management software during instruction, and empathy for the educator experience. Prior experience in education, edtech, or K-12 environments is a strong plus.
  • Strong project management and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with defect management tools, particularly JIRA.
  • A solid foundation in manual testing, with the ability to develop thorough test cases and identify edge cases across various platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with QA, developers, product managers, and technical leads to resolve defects and clarify requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with strict attention to detail and quality.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • Self-motivated and independent, capable of driving testing efforts with minimal supervision.
  • Lightspeed Systems product experience a plus; Classroom experience strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years working in cross-functional teams (developers, testers, BAs, TPMs).
  • 3+ years working with key-value databases (Amazon DynamoDB is a plus).
  • 3+ years applying software QA processes, including automation tools and performance metrics.
  • Strong understanding and application of risk analysis in the QA process.
  • Experience managing conflict and resolving complex issues quickly and effectively.
  • Familiarity with Test Case Management tools for designing, executing, and documenting tests.
  • Experience across multiple testing types: UI, API, functional, smoke, regression, cross-browser, mobile.
  • Comfort testing across ChromeOS, Windows, and macOS environments, and familiarity with Chrome browser extensions.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach to QA.
  • Experience querying, writing reports, and presenting actionable insights.
  • Experience testing real-time communication features (WebSocket/WebRTC) or multi-user interactive applications.
  • Familiarity with K-12 network environments, including web filtering, SSL inspection, and device management (MDM/Google Admin Console).
  • Additional Agile certifications are a plus.
  • Familiarity with SCCM, GPO, AWS, and other modern deployment/infrastructure tools.
