In late 2015, Amazon launched Seattle's first Community Banana Stand to connect with the community. Now, we're bringing the fun to Sunnyvale, CA by cruising through town on a banana-filled bike and spreading joy along the way! The Community Banana Stand is a fun way to connect with the community. The program brings moments of joy to corporate sites and surrounding areas. Northwest Center staffs the stands with upbeat "Banistas" who make each interaction special.
Ready to lead with energy and make an impact? As our Community Engagement Lead e-Cyclist, you'll set the standard for outstanding customer service and shape the guest experience. You’ll train and inspire two part-time Community Engagement e-Cyclists to deliver 5-star service every day. Cruise through your route on an electric bike, stopping to hand out free bananas to keep the community energized and smiling! Whether rolling out new initiatives, tackling challenges, or embracing change, you’ll be at the heart of a fast-paced, and ever-evolving environment. 
You’ll collaborate with a passionate team, greet guests with excitement, keep everything running smoothly, and solve problems on the spot. As the face of our community Banana Stand, you’ll create an unforgettable experience that keeps people coming back for more. Location: Sunnyvale, CA
Schedule: Full-time (40 hrs/week), Monday–Friday, 7:15 a.m.–3:45 p.m., with occasional nights and weekends, as needed
Hourly Rate: $33.09 per hour

 Work You Will Do

  • Assists with the daily setup of the banana stand by transporting it via electric bike to designated locations throughout Amazon's campus.
  • Riding the electric bike with a 1.5-mile radius as well as physically pushing the bike up moderate inclines as needed.
  • Providing leadership to a small team including day-to-day operational support.
  • Exemplify and inspire interactive customer experiences by delivering outstanding customer service, fostering engagement, and creating positive, memorable interactions with every customer.
  • Ensuring the bananas are properly organized, sorted, and maintained in the crates. Assist in the daily ordering of bananas.  
  • Track daily metrics in tracking software on distribution, compost, carry-over cases, and additional areas as specified by leadership.
  • Track all comments, general inquiries, and public response to identify common themes and emergency situations needing attention.
  • Attending events with the banana stand as needed.
  • Attend weekly syncs with Supervisor to review projects, operations, and team feedback.
  • Handle delivery/operational issues, troubleshoot solutions, and advise on process improvements.
  • Train new hires, provide ongoing Banista training, and support Banana Stand openings.
  • Conduct monthly inventory counts for uniforms, assets, and manage Holiday/Seasonal décor kits.

 
Who You Are

  • 1 year of customer service experience with roles working with community engagement preferred.
  • 6 months’ experience operating a bicycle in an urban environment. Preferred.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Commitment to personal and road safety practices.
  • Commitment to Northwest Center’s mission of inclusion and ability to successfully work in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to perform subtraction, multiplication and division for equations up to 3 digits.
  • Must be proficient with MS Windows, Excel, and Outlook e-mail.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with leadership, co-workers, and visitors.
  • Ability to own projects from beginning to end.
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Responds calmly and professionally to emergencies, angry customers, or other stressful situations in the workplace.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Need to physically operate electric bicycle riding between Amazon buildings and offsite locations. Standard route is within a 1.5-mile radius.
  • Need to be able to physically push bike up moderate inclines in storage space and on the road, as needed.
  • Comfortably operating electric bicycle on public streets and bike paths in a busy urban environment. Other cars, pedestrians, and bikes will be actively traveling in close proximity.
  • Must be able to able to lift bananas and stack boxes up to 50 lbs. repetitively.
  • May need to carry supplies to other buildings.
  • Ability to walk consistently within a 1.5 mile radius is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language
  • Ability to see both distance and details at close range, within a few feet of the observer (with or without corrective lenses).
  • Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person (with or without a personal auditory hearing device).
  • This is a dog friendly environment with dogs located all over campus. Individuals with dog allergies or those who do not particularly care for dogs may not be the best fit.
  • Must be able to stand and/or sit outdoors in all weather conditions above 90 degrees Fahrenheit for 2 to 4 hours at a time and up to 8 hours for the day.
  • Must be able to handle bananas and/or various food products without allergic reaction.
