Position Summary
Working under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant provides skilled occupational therapy treatments designed to help patients improve their ability to perform activities of daily living safely and independently.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist, you will:
Implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans established by the supervising Occupational Therapist
Assist patients in improving functional mobility, self-care skills, upper extremity function, coordination, strength, balance, and independence with daily activities
Guide patients through therapeutic exercises, activities, and functional task training appropriate to the established plan of care
Instruct patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, adaptive equipment, energy conservation techniques, and home safety strategies
Observe, document, and communicate patient progress, responses to treatment, and changes in condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist
Complete accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, caregivers, and other interdisciplinary team members to provide coordinated, patient-centered care
Maintain compliance with Medicare regulations, agency policies, and professional standards of practice
Qualifications
We're looking for candidates who have:
Graduate of an accredited Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) program
Current New Mexico COTA license in good standing
Current CPR/BLS certification
Valid driver's license
Reliable transportation with current automobile insurance
Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills
Home health experience preferred, but enthusiastic and compassionate clinicians are encouraged to apply
