Job description

The Welder/Fabricator will TIG weld aluminum parts, after cutting, bending and fitting into final product. Finish welding products to QC standards and blueprints.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Repairs and fabricates various aluminum pipes, aluminum items, or aluminum materials using cutting, bending, and welding techniques and equipment.
  • Monitors the welding, cutting, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld aluminum parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
  • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Maintains safety training requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding to include blueprints, designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Thorough understanding of band saw, miter saw, plasma cutter, angle grinder, AC High frequency welding machine, utilization of scales, knowledge of drills, taps and a mill.
  • Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
  • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
  • Basic understanding of reading, writing and mathematics as related to welding assignments and interpreting blueprints and drawings.
Education and Experience:
  • At least 1+ year(s) Tig Aluminum experience, preferably in the boating industry, or completion of a formal apprenticeship OR successful completion of an in-company, three-year training program required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to Stand and Walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull and carry/move at least 50 lbs.
  • Frequent needs to: climb, crawl, push, pull, lift, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, speak, hear, visually inspect work, rotate arms at various angles, reach overhead, reach at or below shoulder level, gross, fine manipulation to operate hand and power tools, etc.
  • Read levels, temperatures and gauges.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces within boat hulls and compartments.
  • Work in an environment with exposure to noise at levels not requiring ear protection, chemicals, and dust. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, and eye protection.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and respirators as required.
  • Work off a creeper.
  • Seasonal Temperatures may impact work environment.
