What is an alumina?

An Alumina job typically involves working in the production, processing, or research of alumina (aluminum oxide), a key material in the aluminum industry. Roles can range from mining bauxite ore, refining it into alumina, and managing smelting operations to quality control, engineering, and environmental compliance. Employees in this field often work in industrial settings such as refineries, laboratories, or manufacturing plants. Positions may require expertise in engineering, chemistry, operations management, or materials science.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an alumina production operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Alumina Production Operator, you need a solid understanding of chemical processes, machinery operation, and safety protocols, often supported by a technical diploma or relevant experience in industrial settings. Familiarity with process control systems, instrumentation, and equipment maintenance tools is typically required. Attention to detail, teamwork, and strong problem-solving abilities are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality alumina production while minimizing downtime and maintaining compliance with industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in alumina production, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in alumina production often encounter challenges such as maintaining strict safety standards in a potentially hazardous environment, optimizing process efficiency, and ensuring product quality. These challenges can be addressed through rigorous adherence to safety protocols, regular training, and effective communication with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, quality control, and engineering. Job description

Description

Atlantic Alumina’s (ATALCO) holdings include ATALCO Gramercy, the only US alumina refinery which produces smelter grade alumina for the production of aluminum and chemical grade aluminas for non-metallurgical applications, and Discovery Bauxite, located in St. Ann, Jamaica, which mines and ships bauxite globally for metallurgical and non-metallurgical applications through its partnership with Jamaica Bauxite Mining Limited. Driven by a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement, ATALCO is focused on building a resilient, efficient, and sustainable supply chain that enables long-term business success.

As the company pursues growth and operational performance initiatives, we are seeking talented leaders who are passionate about driving value, developing strategic supplier partnerships, and contributing to the future growth of our organization.

Position Summary

ATALCO is seeking an experienced and results-driven Procurement Operations Manager to lead the daily execution of procurement activities and to manage the Procurement Operations team.
