What types of assignments and clients do alternative models typically work with?
Alternative Models often work with brands, photographers, and designers in industries such as fashion, beauty, music, and art, particularly those seeking to showcase unique looks or subcultural aesthetics. Assignments may include editorial shoots, runway shows, advertising campaigns, or promotional events. Models usually collaborate closely with creative teams to bring specific visions to life, requiring flexibility and strong teamwork. The diversity of clients offers opportunities for portfolio growth and connections with influential professionals in the creative field.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an alternative model, and why are they important?
To thrive as an Alternative Model, you need confidence in front of the camera, a distinctive personal style, and the ability to pose dynamically for varied creative concepts. Familiarity with photo shoot processes, modeling portfolios, and digital submission platforms is often required. Strong communication skills, adaptability, and professionalism help models stand out and collaborate effectively with photographers and creative teams. These skills ensure successful photo shoots and lasting relationships within the competitive modeling industry.
What is an alternative model?
An Alternative Model is a fashion or commercial model who represents non-traditional beauty standards, such as edgy, gothic, punk, or heavily tattooed looks. They often work with niche brands, independent designers, and alternative fashion labels. Unlike mainstream models, they showcase unique aesthetics and subcultures in photoshoots, runway shows, and promotional campaigns. Their work may also include social media branding, music videos, and artistic projects.

Job description
We are seeking a Utility Modeling Engineer to support the planning, analysis, and design of complex water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong hydraulic modeling experience who enjoys solving system-wide challenges, developing master utility plans, and supporting large-scale infrastructure projects through data-driven decision making.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in hydraulic and hydraulic-grade-line modeling using Bentley WaterGEMS and WaterCAD and have experience supporting utility master plans, phased developments, lift station design, force main systems, pump station evaluations, and utility infrastructure expansion projects. This individual will work closely with project managers, utility engineers, and municipal clients to develop reliable system models that guide planning, design, permitting, and long-term capital improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Hydraulic Modeling & Analysis
- Develop, maintain, and calibrate hydraulic models for:
- Water distribution systems
- Wastewater collection systems
- Reclaimed water systems
- Force main networks
- Utilize Bentley WaterCAD and WaterGEMS to evaluate system performance under existing and future conditions.
- Analyze pressures, velocities, fire flow availability, storage requirements, and system reliability.
- Perform scenario analyses to evaluate growth, infrastructure improvements, operational changes, and emergency conditions.
- Develop recommendations for system optimization and capital improvement planning.
Master Planning & Phased Development
- Create and manage master utility models for large-scale, multi-phase development projects.
- Evaluate infrastructure requirements associated with phased growth and future buildout conditions.
- Identify capacity constraints and recommend utility improvements to support future development.
- Prepare technical memorandums and utility planning reports supporting entitlement and infrastructure planning efforts.
- Coordinate with land development teams to integrate utility planning into overall site development strategies.
Wastewater & Pumping Systems
- Model wastewater collection systems and force main networks.
- Evaluate lift station performance and hydraulic grade lines.
- Support lift station sizing and design efforts.
- Perform pump selection and pump system evaluations.
- Analyze wet well storage requirements, pump curves, operating conditions, and system efficiencies.
- Develop alternatives for system expansion, redundancy, and operational reliability.
Design Support
- Provide hydraulic modeling support for utility design projects.
- Collaborate with utility engineers during preliminary and final design.
- Support preparation of engineering reports, calculations, technical specifications, and permit applications.
- Assist with construction-phase troubleshooting and operational analyses when required.
Data Management & GIS Integration
- Maintain utility system databases and model inventories.
- Coordinate GIS, survey, and utility record information for model development.
- Verify model accuracy through field data, flow monitoring, pressure testing, and utility owner records.
- Develop model documentation standards and quality control procedures.
Client & Team Collaboration
- Present technical findings and recommendations to clients and project teams.
- Collaborate with municipal utility departments, developers, and regulatory agencies.
- Support proposals, interviews, and technical pursuits involving utility planning and modeling services.
- Mentor engineers and designers in hydraulic modeling principles and best practices.
Requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in utility engineering and hydraulic modeling.
- Advanced proficiency with:
- Bentley WaterGEMS
- Bentley WaterCAD
- Experience developing:
- Water distribution models
- Wastewater collection system models
- Reclaimed water models
- Force main analyses
- Experience supporting utility master planning studies and phased development projects.
- Knowledge of lift station design, pump selection, and wastewater conveyance systems.
- Familiarity with GIS integration and utility data management.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
What you'll need to be successful...
A successful Utility Modeling Engineer:
- Serves as the firm's subject matter expert for utility system modeling.
- Develops accurate, defensible models that clients rely on for planning and capital investments.
- Understands how utility systems evolve over multiple phases of development and can proactively identify future constraints.
- Bridges the gap between utility master planning and detailed design.
- Provides practical recommendations that improve system reliability, constructability, and long-term performance.
- Builds trusted relationships with utility owners, municipalities, and internal project teams through technical excellence and responsiveness.
