Job description

A sophisticated boutique litigation firm is seeking an experienced Complex Litigation Attorney to join its growing team. This attorney will have the opportunity to work on high-stakes, complex matters involving sophisticated business disputes, commercial litigation, class actions, consumer litigation, financial services, healthcare, insurance, securities, and other significant disputes.

The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience, excellent legal writing and analytical skills, and the ability to take ownership of complex matters from inception through resolution. The attorney should be comfortable working closely with clients and senior attorneys while developing litigation strategy and handling substantive aspects of cases independently.


Responsibilities

  • Manage complex litigation matters from initial case assessment through discovery, motion practice, mediation, trial, and appeal.
  • Develop and execute litigation strategies for sophisticated commercial and business disputes.
  • Draft and argue dispositive and substantive motions, pleadings, discovery, briefs, and other legal filings.
  • Manage all aspects of written discovery and conduct and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts.
  • Prepare matters for hearings, evidentiary proceedings, arbitration, and trial.
  • Conduct legal and factual research involving complex and novel legal issues.
  • Analyze claims, defenses, damages, and potential exposure to develop effective case strategies.
  • Work closely with clients to understand business objectives, assess risk, and provide practical legal advice.
  • Collaborate with partners and other attorneys on significant litigation and trial strategy.
  • Assist with class action, consumer, securities, healthcare, insurance, real estate, and other complex commercial matters as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with experts, consultants, co-counsel, and outside professionals when necessary.
  • Maintain responsibility for case deadlines, budgets, discovery, and overall case development.
  • Participate in settlement negotiations, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Assist with appellate strategy and preservation of issues for appeal.


Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the Florida Bar.
  • 3+ years of substantive complex litigation experience; stronger consideration for candidates with 5+ years.
  • Meaningful experience handling complex commercial, business, class action, consumer, insurance, securities, healthcare, or other sophisticated litigation.
  • Strong deposition, motion practice, legal research, and legal writing experience.
  • Trial experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in both Florida state and federal courts is a plus.
  • Ability to independently manage significant portions of litigation while working effectively within a team.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to develop practical strategies for high-stakes matters.
