Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital, requiring active IL license and a minimum of 2.5 years of OR experience.

Details
  • Operating Room department with 23 rooms in an acute care hospital setting
  • Works evening shift, 4x10-hour shifts from 13:00 to 22:00
  • Handles general OR and trauma cases across service lines excluding cardiovascular
  • Requires weekend coverage approximately once per month
  • On-call responsibilities approximately once per week
  • Rarely required to float within scope of practice
  • Uses Cerner charting system (experience preferred)
  • Utilizes equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required in hand or in-process at time of application
  • Minimum 2.5 years of Operating Room nursing experience required
  • BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred
  • Level I trauma center experience required
  • Cerner charting experience preferred
  • Experience required in General Surgery cases (Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair, Laparoscopic procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy, Whipple)
  • Experience required in Neurology cases (Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion)
  • Experience required in Orthopedic cases (Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures)
  • Experience required in Urology cases (Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy)
  • Experience required in Trauma cases (Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, MVA with multiple injuries)
  • Experience required in Bariatric laparoscopic assisted cases
  • Experience required in Plastic Surgery microvascular free flap procedures
  • Experience required in Organ donation/transplant cases
  • Proficiency required in emergency management skills (Code response, Fire safety, Latex Allergy protocols, Malignant Hyperthermia protocols)
  • Proficiency required in blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time Out) procedure, and urinary bladder catheterization
  • First-time travelers not accepted for this role
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Previous PERM or PRN employees must have been separated from the facility for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
Additional Information
  • Facility is a 562-bed acute care hospital with Level I trauma center and Magnet designation
  • Scrubs are provided for this role
  • All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by facility management
  • Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Floating is required for all travelers, which may include floating within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
  • First day of assignment is a virtual, at-home orientation day with required modules completed by 4:00 PM CST
  • Travel pairs are not accepted at this facility
