CED's current salary range for this role is $74,500 - $100,000 / year. At CED, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, location and geography. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program. CED’s benefit offerings include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, life insurance and other voluntary supplemental insurance coverages, plus parental leave, adoption assistance, tuition assistance and employer/partner discounts. CED follows a 9/80 work schedule allowing employees to enjoy alternating Fridays off.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Welding Engineer is responsible for developing, qualifying, and sustaining welding processes used in the manufacture of aerospace and defense components. This role ensures all welding operations comply with stringent customer, regulatory, and industry standards, while supporting New Product Development and production teams in achieving quality, safety, and delivery objectives.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide support for resolving welding and fabrication issues on the production floor
  • Develop, qualify, optimize welding processes for New Product Development (NPD) and existing production programs
  • Partner with Design Engineering teams to ensure materials selection and joint design comply with industry best practices
  • Conduct multi-factor Design of Experiments (DOE) to evaluate and improve the manufacturing design and weld process
  • Create and maintain welding documentation, including Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), quality control standards, and detailed work instructions
  • Assist in the evaluation of weld integrity through both destructive and non-destructive testing
  • Contribute to the training and development Operators, Inspectors, and Engineers; ensure competency is evaluated and documented
  • Evaluate failure analysis and technical outcomes of non-conforming hardware
  • Work with internal and customer teams to provide resolutions
  • Support the development and sustainment of a total productive maintenance (TPM) plan, assuring all aspects of the equipment and process meet performance, quality, and reliability objectives
  • Participate and facilitate PHAs (process hazard analysis) and JHA (job hazard analysis) teams

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Ensure 100% compliance with the Chemring Operational Framework, BACM, Code of Conduct and U.S. Code of Ethics and Business Conduct

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in welding process development or applications engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience with advanced welding technologies, weld monitoring, and weld analysis principles

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Lawful US Person (ITAR restrictions)
  • Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various stakeholders such as managers, clients, customers and the public
  • Ability to work within an agile and milestone driven culture and be capable of working with peers on a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with leadership and operating independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated capability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple schedules simultaneously
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including advanced use of Excel and Visio
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while sustaining consistent results
  • Experience applying structured problem-solving methods and root-cause analysis tools.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively across departments, including with internal customers and suppliers

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted and intermittently throughout workday. Vision requirements may include color and depth perception or may be subject to additional customer or contractual requirements. Use of computer for extended periods of time.
