Job description

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The Crane Structural Welder/Fabricator is responsible for performing high-quality welding and fabricating tasks on structural components of cranes and heavy machinery. This role involves interpreting blueprints, specifications, and engineered drawings to ensure precise and safe welding of materials. The welder/fabricator will work with various types of metals, such as steel and aluminum, and use a range of welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding to fabricate and repair crane structures.
Essential Responsibilities:
Demonstrates willingness to take direction and follow instructions.
Adheres to schedule and maintains regular attendance at worksite. Works overtime as needed.
Maintains a safe and clean work environment, returns all tools after use to proper storage locations, and performs routine housekeeping (i.e.: cleaning, organizing). Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Identifies unsafe working conditions and notifies supervisor.
Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications to determine welding and fabrication requirements for crane components.
Weld and fabricate structural crane components including torsion box and bed assemblies, multi-piece booms, masts, and outriggers using various welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
Use a variety of fabrication tools and equipment such as saws, drills, grinders, welding machines, and bridge cranes to complete tasks.
Ensure that all welds meet industry standards and safety regulations.
Inspect materials and structures to identify defects or areas that require repair.
Collaborate with engineers and fabricators to ensure proper fit and alignment of components.
Assist in the assembly and installation of crane structures when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a structural welder, preferably with crane or heavy machinery experience.
  • Certification in welding (e.g., AWS or other recognized certifications) is highly preferred.
  • Proficient in welding techniques including MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of various metals and their characteristics/qualities including the correct welding processes and the effects of welding on the material.
  • Skilled in inspecting welds for defects such as cracks, porosity, and undercuts, and ensuring they pass quality checks for strength and integrity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or within a team environment.
  • Experience in crane assembly, repair, or maintenance is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
