Description

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Cleveland, Ohio Full-Time Nonprofit

$140,000 - $195,000 + Exceptional Benefits

A well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization in Cleveland is seeking a Director of Finance to serve as its chief financial strategist. This is an executive-level opportunity for a seasoned nonprofit finance leader who wants their work to matter - not just on the balance sheet, but in the community.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Executive Director and serving as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee, the Director of Finance owns the full financial health of a $20M organization. You will lead a team, guide strategy, ensure compliance, and translate complex financial data into clear narratives that drive smart decisions.

This role functions at the CFO level - strategic, visible, and deeply embedded in organizational leadership.

What You'll Own

Financial strategy, long-range planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling

Oversee full accounting operations: GL integrity, AP/AR, payroll, cash flow, month- and year-end close

Annual budgeting process in partnership with executive and program leadership

Monthly and quarterly financial reporting to the Executive Director, Board, and Finance Committee

Annual audit coordination and external auditor relationship

Compliance with all federal, state, and funder regulations - including federally funded program requirements

Internal controls - rigorous, non-negotiable, and consistently enforced

Leadership and development of a team of three (with a fourth hire to follow)

You're the Right Fit If You...

Have 15+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, including team leadership

Have deep nonprofit accounting expertise - federally funded organizations strongly preferred

Translate numbers into stories, and present with confidence to a board

Hold internal controls as a professional standard, not a checkbox

Are collaborative by nature but confident enough to hold your ground

Are energized by mission - justice, equity, and access to opportunity mean something to you

Have a Bachelor's degree in a related field; CPA or advanced degree a plus

Systems

MIP Fund Accounting MICROIX (AP) PAYCOR (HRIS) Advanced Excel Microsoft Office Suite

The Benefits

$140,000 - $195,000 salary, commensurate with experience

Full health insurance coverage (individual or family, high-deductible plan)

403(b) with automatic 10% employer contribution + 50% match on up to 6% - up to 19% total

Generous PTO + sabbatical program for eligible staff

Strong professional development support and community leadership opportunities

Annual merit increases

Work Environment

This is a primarily in-office role in downtown Cleveland, consistent with senior leadership expectations. Occasional flexibility exists. Some regional travel (within one hour) and conference attendance may be required.

Interviews will be scheduled beginning in early June 2026.
