JOB SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Radar Test and Analysis Engineer will work primarily within research and development engineering groups with responsibility for a wide variety of tasks. The primary tasking will be a variety of testing tasks using radars. We are looking for engineers with entry to master level skill sets who work well in both theoretical and practical domains as part of an iterative process to create innovative solutions for a multitude of relevant domain challenges as partially described below.
Employee will be responsible for the following functions/duties:
- Perform analysis of test data, including signal post-processing and/or noise levels, visualization, and comparison with modeled data, expected values, and/or mission criteria.
- Analysis and visualization of large, compiles datasets MATLAB, Python and other related tools.
- Understand and apply the radar range equation.
- Work independently on multiple tasks.
- Calculate RF link budgets and expected interference levels for various test scenarios and geometries.
- Determine specific radar and other technical data which must be made available and collected to satisfy specified mission requirements.
- Develops physics-based models of RF systems.
- Develop comprehensive test plans, test reports, and presentations.
- Perform RF signal analysis.
- Track known radar data over time to statically determine the health of various radar systems and components.
- Convey complex radar-related information in both written and spoken form for personnel with limited domain knowledge.
- Determine, understand, and evaluate which signal processing techniques and algorithms are used to process radar returns.
- Perform other job-related duties, as required
Desired Qualifications
- Major or Minor in EE or Physics
- Aptitude for learning on the job
- Familiarity with radar signal processing/algorithms (including, but not limited to, CFAR/detection, False Alarm Rate (FAR), waveform/PRF selection, range resolution, scheduling/resource management, trackers, Kalman filters, optimization, etc.)
- Basic understanding of all components of the radar range equation
- Basic understanding of RF, antennas, and/or electromagnetic wave propagation and interaction (antenna theory, RF Sensors, RF front end architectures, signal and digital processing, and sensing modalities or a combination of the above skills and a willingness to deepen expertise)
- MATLAP and/or Python: Proficiency (tool development, scripting, code review, etc.)
- Experience in RF sensor data analysis, signal processing, or related radar/defense work
In addition, in a general sense, there may also be other assignments available in planning, performing, and overseeing research, design, development, production, testing, installation, integration, sustainment, operation, and maintenance of radar equipment used for radar testing. The Radar Test and Analysis Engineer may also independently perform a range of design, development, analysis, or review tasks under generally established project deadlines.
