What's the role?

The Mining Engineer reports to the Senior Mining Engineer, and the primary role is for the safe design and implementation of Mine plans and systems as well as other engineering requirements within the Technical Service Team. The primary focus of the engineering team is to safely and efficiently deliver the designs, plans and expertise to successfully extract the world class ore body we enjoy here at Pogo, while at the same time developing the skills to set themselves up for future leadership and management roles. The Pogo engineering team are a dynamic and adaptable group of engineers with varying experience and specializations. Working within the technical team at Pogo presents our engineers with the opportunities to develop highly sought-after skills in production, planning, scheduling and project management.

What are we looking for?

You'll be a highly motivated individual who will display behavior consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results (STARR), looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

Duties include:

  • Generating and implementing underground drift and fill stope designs
  • Generating short and medium term production schedules
  • Presenting weekly production schedules to mine operations and geology departments
  • Establishing and monitoring mine ventilation network designs
  • Establishing and implementing paste backfill designs
  • Establishing and implementing ground control and support designs
  • Performing financial evaluations and cost analyses for operating and capital project justification
  • Identifying, communicating and assisting to resolve safety hazards
  • Performing other duties and projects as assigned
  • Other duties as required.

The specifics:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mine Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years underground mining experience
  • Experience in hard rock underground mining, preferably gold
  • Experience and/or training in Deswik, or other mine design software package required.
  • High level analysis and problem-solving skills and ability to provide working solutions
  • Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Display a clear commitment to safety, health and responsible environmental management

The Details:

Working a 15 days on,13 days off at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
