The Manager Software engineering role is responsible for executing the digital services strategy for Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. As a people leader, this role leads and establishes priorities for software engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure digital solutions that support business objectives, operational excellence, and customer experience. The role develops and leads technical talent, drives a culture of innovation and partners across product and technology disciplines to enable the successful delivery of digital products and services.


  • Lead a team of software engineers and establish priorities for the design, development, delivery, and support of digital products and technology solutions.
  • Make decisions related to software engineering practices, technical direction, architecture, development standards, and quality assurance within the engineering function.
  • Execute the software engineering strategy by delivering high-quality technology solutions that support business objectives, operational excellence, reliability, and safety.
  • Drive effective practices that ensure the delivery of robust, scalable, reliable, and highly available technology solutions.
  • Partner with Product Management and other cross-functional stakeholders to provide technical input on product roadmaps, priorities, and technology solutions.
  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing team capability and capacity, evaluating team performance, and supporting employee development.

Required

  • 5 years of experience in Software Engineering.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in computer science or related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Strong software and data structure design, development and architecture experience.
  • Experience delivering modern software, apps, or systems at scale for large customer bases.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage effective collaboration with design and product for success.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Experience leading teams that built, deployed and supported enterprise-scale mobile applications.
  • Hands-on software development experience architecting, designing, and developing iOS or Android mobile applications.
  • Well-versed in current DevSecOps engineering practices.
  • Experience in managing multiple scrum delivery teams.
  • Experience in critical application support and site reliability engineering.

$149,600-$224,400 / year

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.


Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air pay and benefits can vary by company, location, number of regularly scheduled hours worked, length of employment, and employment status.
