Job Description
Alabama State University, College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, Biological Sciences, invites applications to fill the position of Postdoctoral Researcher. The selected candidate will conduct research on industrial hemp and specialty crops with responsibilities evolving to meet the needs of the university and department. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program focused on the antimicrobial properties of hemp and integrated pest management for hemp and specialty crops. This work is expected to result in publications in peer-reviewed journals and the acquisition of external grant funding.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct basic and applied research on the antimicrobial properties of hemp
  • Develop protocols and carry out research on integrated pest management (IPM) for hemp & specialty crops
  • Establish a research program integrating predatory mites, parasitoids, and entomopathogenic fungi in IPM programs for specialty crop pests
  • Serve as co-principal investigator on research funding proposals
  • Prepare project reports and author professional articles
  • Present research findings to clients, stakeholders, and relevant audiences
  • Participate on graduate student supervisory committees
  • Perform extension and outreach activities relate to research
  • Provide general support to the Biological Science Department and the hiring unit as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
A PhD in entomology, Chemical Ecology, Microbiology, or closely related discipline with a specialization in IPM or antimicrobial properties, experience in field and lab research, demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, interdisciplinary national/international collaboration, and procurement of extramural funding required.
