Job Summary
This position is responsible for managing the cataloging of library materials and for managing the library's bibliographic database.
Responsibilities
  • Manages library cataloging operations. (70%)
    • Oversees the library's cataloging system for books, serials, documents, and audio-video and other materials.
    • Oversees processing of approved library donations, including cataloging, evaluation for retention or disposal, and integration into the collection; manages weeding projects as assigned.
    • Performs original and copy cataloging to facilitate the identification, access, and use of library materials.
    • Manages cataloging department technology issues.
    • Supervises the work of any cataloging assistants.
    • Reports cataloging department annual statistics to the Dean.
  • Provides support for other library functions. (20%)
    • Teaches University 1000 Class sections, Fundamentals of Information Literature, and one-shot sessions.
    • Upgrades bibliographic records.
    • Attends ALMA USG Institution Leaders meetings and GIL Cataloging Team meetings.
    • Serves as ALMA Institutional Lead
    • Attends library conferences, training, and workshops.
    • Provides support for library programs.
  • Performs a variety of related duties. (10%)
  • Other duties may be asked, such as watching the Front Desk, as needed.

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited university.
Required Experience
More than two years of related experience required.

The Director Of Library Services assigns work in terms of department goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include ALMA Interconnected Libraries (GIL) cataloging policies and procedures, USG cataloging policies, copyright laws, and other university and system policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
  • The work consists of varied cataloging, instructional, management, and patron support duties. The unique needs of each patron contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to coordinate the library's cataloging functions. Success in this position contributes to the identification, accessibility, and use of library materials.
