Job description

Title: AirWatch MDM Engineer
Client: Metropolitan Council – Unified Communication and Collaboration Team
Location: St. Paul, MN (Onsite across 7-county metro area)
Interview Mode: In-person at 390 Robert Street North, St. Paul, MN 55101

Project Description:
The Metropolitan Council Unified Communication and Collaboration Team is seeking a full-time AirWatch MDM Engineer to manage and support the existing enterprise mobile device management (MDM) environment. The resource will maintain the current VMware Workspace ONE (AirWatch) infrastructure and work closely with the Endpoint Engineering Team on the strategic planning and execution of a future migration to Microsoft Intune. This is a fully onsite role supporting multiple Met Council locations across the 7-county metro area.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer and maintain the existing VMware Workspace ONE / AirWatch MDM platform, including device enrollment, policy configuration, application deployment, and compliance monitoring for iOS and Android devices.
• Provide Tier 2/3 support for mobile device issues across iOS, Android, and Windows platforms.
• Maintain carrier/vendor support portals (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) for cellular device activations and changes.
• Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure mobile device policies align with organizational and regulatory standards.
• Monitor system performance, generate reports, and implement improvements to enhance user experience and security posture.
• Contribute to the assessment, planning, and phased migration from AirWatch to Microsoft Intune, including stakeholder engagement, pilot testing, and documentation.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices in endpoint management and mobile security and advise leadership on recommendations.
• Troubleshoot complex MDM and mobility issues and drive root-cause analysis and resolution.
• Participate in knowledge transfer activities and mentor internal staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3+ years of hands-on experience with VMware Workspace ONE / AirWatch administration.
• 2+ years of combined experience using AirWatch MDM software, mobile OS platforms, and enterprise mobility architecture.
• 2+ years of experience with cellular activations and management using vendor portals such as Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
• 1+ year of combined experience with Microsoft Intune, Azure AD, and Microsoft Endpoint Manager.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with Intune deployment or migration projects.
• Microsoft certifications such as MD-102, SC-300, or AZ-104.
• Knowledge of Zero Trust principles and conditional access policies.
• Experience integrating MDM with identity and access management solutions.
• Experience with PowerShell scripting or other automation tools.
• Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
