Overview
The Airport Operations Officer inspects, observes, and evaluates land side and airport facilities and provides a variety of services to tenants and the general public to ensure their safety, security, and to achieve compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Assists emergency services and coordinates responses.
Essential Functions
1 Answers, responds to, and helps customers and patrons using the airport with all manner of questions, inquiries, or concerns; provides direction, insight, and information for airport operations, services, and other resources; handles and addresses noise complaints and other issues from the surrounding community and neighborhoods.
2 Inspects airport for compliance with FAA regulations pertaining to federal standards and requirements to
ensure the operational readiness of the airport; conducts daily terminal inspections for discrepancies to avoid possible injuries to the public; maintains aesthetics of the airport and reports any issues or maintenance concerns.
3 Assists, supports, and helps airlines with various requests, fuel or lavatory spill calls, custodial spills, and appropriate reporting methods for incidents; effectively uses communications software and systems to send messages to personnel and handle personnel or patron situations.
4 Keeps, maintains, and tracks records for all communications and incidents; ensure all situations are documented and reported to ensure proper and safe handling and resolution.
5 Inputs and submits various work orders for airport maintenance and care; ensures accuracy of information entered to ensure all work orders are completed in a timely and efficient manner; verifies tenant and issues keys and other security items.
6 Acts as liaison between the department and the tenants to provide information and service to tenants regarding
the use of airport facilities; responds to inquiries regarding airport policy, airport tenants, and airport operations; answers TSA related questions and directs individuals to appropriate resources for further information.
7 Responds effectively to alerts and emergency situations; uses communications software to ensure all necessary parties and agencies are notified; effectively coordinates communications and information sharing to mitigate the effect of a situation on airport operations.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of airport regulations and general business management.
2 Knowledge of customer service care practices and principles.
3 Knowledge of airport policies, procedures, and detailed terminal layout.
4 Ability to communicate with various individuals from diverse backgrounds.
5 Knowledge of airport, airlines, and resources.
6 Ability to use various communications and information management software.
7 Communicating effectively orally and in writing.
8 Establishing and maintaining strong and effective relationships.
9 Ability to handle and communicate emergency situations with professionalism and skill.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:
  • Two (2) years of experience in aviation that must include one (1) of the following areas:
    • Airport Operations
    • Airport Inspections
    • Airport Facility Inspections
    • Airport/Airline Security
    • Landside Terminal Operations
    • Airside Operations
    • Airport Operations Center

EQUIVALENCY:
  • An associate degree (or higher) in any field will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE and CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Some positions require a Movement Area certification within probationary period.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must pass Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check.
  • Availability to work varying shifts (days, evenings, nights) including weekends, holidays.
  • May be subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call outs.

Salary Range
$24.39 - $27.71
