Job description

Field Service Technician - Northeast

Hypertherm Associates seeks a Field Service Technician to join our Waterjet team!

Join us and add your technical mechanical field expertise to our team and ensure Hypertherm's Waterjet customers can get the trusted on-site service they count on with an investment in our Waterjet solutions.

Traveling directly to our customer sites, you will represent our high-quality brand and be responsible for Waterjet equipment installation and configurations, through maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Customers depend on Hypertherm's technical Field Service Team to understand their specific Waterjet cutting needs.

This role is based in Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, New Hampshire, or Massachusetts and requires living within one hour of an international airport. Upon hire, you will receive on-site field service training that provides a strong foundation in OMAX Waterjet machines.

As a Waterjet Field Service Technician, you will apply your technical expertise to assist our customers with:

  • Installation and setup: Travel to customer sites to support planned delivery events, uncrate and inventory OMAX equipment, determine equipment layout and permanent placement, assemble and connect sub-assemblies, perform system testing and repairs, and provide new equipment and accessory training, including post-installation follow-up.

  • Technical support and maintenance: Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on previously installed OMAX Waterjet equipment on-site, by email, and over the phone, and perform contract maintenance services at customer locations.

  • Reporting and field feedback: Maintain timely, detailed, and analytical digital service records supported by photos and technical attachments and provide thorough feedback on product issues identified in the field.

  • Sales support: Partner with the sales team as a technical expert during customer-facing trade show demonstrations and pre-sales visits.

Who you are and the experience you bring:

  • Technical aptitude: Hands-on experience using multimeters, electrical schematics, software utilities, torque wrenches, and dial indicators, with strong mechanical aptitude across electrical, software, plumbing, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

  • Customer training and communication: Ability to train customers on product operation, maintenance, and software programming, and explain complex technical concepts in a clear, accessible way.

  • Technical learning and computer skills: Comfortable reading and interpreting technical manuals for installation, operation, and training, with strong computer skills including Windows navigation, driver and firmware installation, and file management.

  • Process focus and customer support: Experience working in a process-focused environment, with the ability to manage challenging customer interactions and serve as a key point of contact during product installation and repair.

  • Travel flexibility: Able to adapt to frequent travel, use travel systems and airline apps effectively, and adjust plans on short notice.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • HS Diploma or GED

  • 2 years of Field Technical Service or related field

  • 2+ years with Cutting Solutions product experience

  • Ability to carry, pull, lift, push and grip over 70 lbs

  • Ability to crawl, twist and climb into machines

  • Must be able to stand on hard surfaces for an extended time

  • Must be physically capable to meet the demands of the role

  • Solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, and CNC/PLC system fundamentals

  • Fluency in English required

  • Required ability to hold a valid Driver's License in all 50 states

Preferred experience that differentiates you:

  • AS Degree (electrical or mechanical field)

  • Cutting Solutions operational and manufacturing assembly experience

Location: Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, New Hampshire, or Massachusetts within 1 hour of an international airport

Travel: Over 75% Monday-Friday
