Job description

As part of the Envelop Group collective of companies, Controlled Environmental Systems (CES) delivers advanced engineering and manufacturing solutions for critical building environments, providing high-quality products and services across sectors such as research, healthcare, and manufacturing; and specializing in critical airflow, air filtration, and HVAC systems.
The Controls Technician will be responsible for the installation, start-up, troubleshooting, commissioning, and servicing of lab control & air monitoring systems while providing top tier customer service for all internal and external customers. The Controls Technician will utilize their knowledge of HVAC systems, control devices, basic computer operations, electronics, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, direct digital controls, airflow, hydronic systems, IT networking, and building control techniques.
The hours for this role are 11pm - 7am.
What you'll do:
  • Perform job startups, checkout, and troubleshooting for new and existing lab control & air monitoring systems.
  • Installation, wiring, & checkout of fume hood controls.
  • Perform wiring checkout and assist in system start-ups utilizing commissioning tools.
  • Project Management of installation contractors and the construction team to ensure that the job schedule is maintained.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including installation records, as-built drawings, programming files, and commissioning reports.
  • Participate in job site meetings and final walk through on assigned jobs and complete all job closeout documentation and customer training.
  • Continually enforce safety to the highest standard and maintain security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
  • Complete all documentation on a daily/weekly/monthly basis as needed.
  • Attend training courses for multiple manufacturers to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work on the lab control & air monitoring systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
  • High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Mechanical, electrical, or related technical degree preferred.
  • 2 + years of experience installing and servicing electronic controls or mechanical equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of temperature controls, HVAC systems, sequences, and applications.
  • Programming, hardware, and troubleshooting experience with one or more BAS platform; Tridium preferred.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, self-motivation, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate clearly with customers, mechanical contractors, subcontractors, and fellow employees.
  • Proven analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, manuals, electrical diagrams, and control sequences.
  • Demonstrated experience in the integration of low-voltage building sub-systems using various industry protocols, such as BACnet, N2, Modbus, etc. preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company needs including to be vaccinated for the flu and/or Covid-19, and subject to all applicable laws.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
