Aircraft Reliability Analyst information

What does an aircraft reliability analyst do?

An Aircraft Reliability Analyst is responsible for monitoring and analyzing data related to the performance and reliability of aircraft systems and components. They identify trends, root causes of failures, and areas for improvement to ensure aircraft safety and minimize downtime. Their work involves preparing reliability reports, collaborating with maintenance and engineering teams, and recommending changes to maintenance programs or procedures. The goal is to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and comply with aviation regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an aircraft reliability analyst?

To thrive as an Aircraft Reliability Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of aircraft systems, and typically a degree in engineering or aviation-related fields. Familiarity with reliability analysis software, maintenance tracking systems, and data visualization tools is crucial, along with knowledge of regulatory standards such as FAA or EASA requirements. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are important soft skills for interpreting complex data and collaborating with maintenance teams. These skills are essential to ensure aircraft safety, optimize maintenance programs, and support regulatory compliance.

What are common challenges faced by an aircraft reliability analyst in tracking and improving fleet performance?

Aircraft Reliability Analysts often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of data from multiple sources, ensuring data accuracy, and identifying meaningful trends amid routine fluctuations. Collaborating effectively with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams is crucial for addressing recurring issues and implementing corrective actions. Staying updated with evolving regulations and integrating new technologies also requires adaptability. Successfully navigating these challenges helps drive continuous improvement in fleet safety and operational efficiency.

What is the difference between Aircraft Reliability Analyst vs Aircraft Maintenance Planner?

AspectAircraft Reliability AnalystAircraft Maintenance Planner
Primary FocusAnalyzing aircraft reliability data to improve safety and performanceScheduling and planning maintenance activities to ensure aircraft readiness
Required SkillsData analysis, reliability engineering, aviation regulationsMaintenance scheduling, resource management, logistics
Work EnvironmentData analysis teams, engineering departments, airline or OEM settingsMaintenance hangars, operations centers, airline or military maintenance units
CertificationsAircraft maintenance certifications, reliability engineering credentialsAircraft maintenance licenses, planning certifications

The Aircraft Reliability Analyst focuses on analyzing data to improve aircraft reliability, while the Aircraft Maintenance Planner manages maintenance schedules to ensure aircraft are operational. Both roles are essential in aviation maintenance but serve different functions within the industry.

We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

Our propulsion systems cannot function without sensors, actuators, controllers, and other electronic hardware functioning well together. You will work with our Design and Development teams to design avionics systems that meet the requirements of our systems and customers. In this staff role you will be responsible for developing avionics hardware to interface measurement and control components to control software. The hardware will interface with measurement devices and actuators such and valves, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, accelerometers, BLDC motors, and communication busses. Having a solid foundation in electronics for harsh environments and a desire to build avionics for space applications is a must. You will help us define and implement our verification strategy using best practices and customer inputs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop mixed-signal designs and shepherd them through the full product life-cycle, including requirements definition, design, development, qualification and release to production.
  • Support avionics architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization and specification, device selection, and roadmap direction.
  • Perform de-rating analysis, worst case circuit analysis, FMECA, and system reliability analysis.
  • Develop avionics systems that interface with sensors and actuators.
  • Support definition and implementation of hardware to software interfaces to implement control law and automated test functions.
  • Support risk analyses, design for test/manufacture/cost, and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies.
  • Participate in program level technology development, mission and safety objectives, and avionics development process improvements.
  • Support rocket engine testing and ground support as necessary

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering flight avionics for aircraft, launch vehicles, or other space applications.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of direct experience in electronics hardware development
  • Understanding of analog/digital filtering, mixed-signal circuit design, analysis, and test design.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles
  • Understanding of sensor and actuator technologies including: RTD's, Pressure Transducers, DC brushless motors, Solenoid valves, Thermocouples, Hydraulic servo valves, LVDT, RVDT, Rotary/Linear Encoders.
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC practices and; MIL-461, DO-160, or FCC compliance

Desired Experience:

  • Direct experience in launch vehicle avionics systems integration
  • Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field with 15+ years of direct experience in electronics hardware development
  • Demonstrated expertise designing Class 3 board assemblies
  • Utilizing IPC 6xx and NASA-STD-8739.n (or similar) standards.
  • Proficiency using Altium (or similar tools) to design complex boards; and experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors.
  • A desire to design mission critical hardware for flight applications.
  • Working knowledge of high-reliability, radiation-tolerant, radiation-hardened flight hardware intended for high altitude and space environments.
