Mass Properties Engineer

As a Mass Properties Engineer, you will take a leading role in developing and managing weight control strategies for complex aircraft modification programs. From early conceptual studies through aircraft modifications and rapid-response upgrades, you'll provide the mass properties expertise that helps turn ambitious engineering concepts into successful aerospace solutions.

What You'll Do
As a key member of the engineering team, you will:
  • Lead the development and execution of aircraft weight control plans for large aircraft modification programs
  • Create and maintain mass properties databases to track weight, center of gravity (CG), and balance estimates
  • Generate accurate mass properties estimates using CAD data and engineering models
  • Support conceptual design studies through parametric weight estimation and modeling
  • Plan, coordinate, and support aircraft weighing activities
  • Prepare, author, and maintain weight and balance reports, documentation, charts, and associated forms
  • Analyze mass properties data and communicate results to engineering teams, customers, and suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and recommended practices
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and development teams throughout the product lifecycle
  • Support multiple aerospace programs ranging from conceptual development to operational upgrades
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations on weight management and aircraft performance considerations
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Typically 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
Technical Expertise
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Deep understanding of SAWE Recommended Practices RP-7 and RP-8
  • Experience with aircraft weighing procedures, associated forms, and reporting
  • Expertise in conceptual design support and parametric modeling
  • Experience developing mass properties estimates from CAD data
  • Proven experience authoring weight and balance reports
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary design and development teams

  • Experience with Dassault 3DX and/or SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of:
    • Aerospace engineering principles
    • Parametric design
    • Model-Based Definition (MBD)
    • Fundamentals of flight mechanics
  • Background supporting Aerospace & Defense programs
  • Experience working with the U.S. Department of Defense or the U.S. Military
