Job description

Job Title: Ground Support Equipment Mechanic

Pay: $27-$34

Job Description

This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining aircraft ground support equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. You will work on a variety of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, using diagnostic tools and technical documentation to keep equipment in top working condition while maintaining accurate records and adhering to safety and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment failures on aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Perform complex diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance work on customer and company-owned equipment.
  • Identify and repair engine mechanical issues on diesel, gas, and LP engines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic start systems using the appropriate schematics.
  • Use diagnostic software to troubleshoot Powertrain Management Systems and related components.
  • Complete vehicle repair orders and all related documentation accurately and on time to maintain quality and compliance standards.
  • Communicate safety concerns, equipment issues, and customer service requests clearly to management.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine service on equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Use hand tools and provided power tools safely and effectively during repair and maintenance activities.
  • Follow all company and regulatory safety procedures, including compliance with FAA and airport requirements.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by management to support the maintenance operation.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of automotive or heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • Hands-on experience with ground support equipment or similar heavy equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel, gas, and LP engines, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance, lube services, and general service work on engines and related systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems using schematics.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to use diagnostic software to troubleshoot Powertrain Management Systems.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and comfort working with shop-provided power tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to comply with DOT policies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport-issued ID badge in accordance with airport contract requirements.
  • Strong documentation skills to accurately complete repair orders and maintenance records.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with management regarding safety concerns and service needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical certification or diploma in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment technology is preferred.
  • ASE certification is preferred.
  • Experience as a diesel technician, lube technician, or heavy equipment technician is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs for engines, hydraulics, and related systems.
  • Experience working with aircraft ground support equipment is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Positive attitude and strong performance focus, supporting potential conversion from contract to hire.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle a variety of maintenance tasks.
