THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for an Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic, Position Description Number D0097000 and is part of the 158th Maintenance Squadron Command of the Vermont Air National Guard.

Duties

This position serves as a Pneudraulic System Mechanic within a fuel systems shop responsible for inspection, repair and maintenance of aircraft fuel cells, water injection, entidetonant (ADI), and inflight refueling systems. Utilizing extensive knowledge of fuel systems maintenance practices and procedures, incumbent troubleshoots the systems and determines extent and type of preventive and/or repair maintenance required and performs all necessary repairs, installation, and operational checks.
1. Utilizing electrical wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics and technical publications, determines extent and type of preventative and/or repair maintenance required. Performs organizational and intermediate maintenance on aircraft fuel systems, components, and equipment to include fuel cells, drop tanks, regulators, pumps, relief valves and fuel accessories. Also performs required maintenance activities associated with time compliance technical orders (TCTC) involving aircraft fuel systems, inflight refueling systems and related components.
2. Connects power sources, and using cockpit controls, gauges and additional precision instruments, performs operational and functional checks of inflight refueling, single point refueling and fuel transfer systems and related valves, pumps, switches, selectors, and control devices.
3. Performs leak check of aircraft fuel systems by visual inspection or by removal of panels and dye tracing fuel leaks. Determines serviceability of fuel cell sealant and replaces it when required. Examines faulty components and determines feasibility of repair, replacement and/or need for submitting unsatisfactory reports. Repairs, reassembles, and installs fuel system components and performs operational tests using bench and other related test equipment
4. Diagnoses and overhauls fuel accessories by disassembling, cleaning, and examining parts for corrosion, scratches, cracks or other damage. Replaces gaskets and worn parts, reassembles accessories, adjusts and tests to insure proper operation in accordance with standards in technical data. Controls entry into fuel cell repair areas.
5. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IG, and DE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.

Qualifications
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is a Title 32 excepted service position that requires membership in the Vermont Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Vermont Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. OPEN AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: AREA 1, 2, 3, 4
Area I: All current On-board Permanent and Indefinite Dual Status 32 and Title 5 (Competitive and Excepted) Technicians (Tenure: 1-Career, 2-Conditional, 3-Indefinite) - Only those Vermont National Guard members who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired within that National Guard component applying for a position within the component which they are currently employed.
Area II: All Members of the Vermont Air National Guard.
Area III: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the VTNG, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state's National Guard.
Area IV: All individuals able to and willing to become members of the Vermont National Guard including prior service not currently assigned to a military component and non-prior service US civilians.
Military Grade: Enlisted: Rank will be individually addressed upon selection up to TSgt/E6
Minimum Requirements: Experience or training which demonstrates your knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles; knowledge of troubleshooting procedures used to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems; and ability to use technical manuals, equipment specifications, and test calibration procedures in performing the work.
Specialized Experience: Experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles. Experience in fabricating fuel, oil, and vacuum hose lines. Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts. Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies. Experience in repairing, rebuilding, and overhauling major systems of ground equipment and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Experience in mechanical repairs using hand tools and test equipment. Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated based on duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.
