What does an aircraft certification engineer do?
An Aircraft Certification Engineer ensures that aircraft, components, and systems comply with regulatory requirements set by aviation authorities like the FAA or EASA. They review designs, conduct tests, and prepare documentation to demonstrate compliance with safety and airworthiness standards. They also collaborate with design, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to resolve issues and obtain necessary certifications. Their role is critical in ensuring that aircraft meet strict safety and performance regulations before entering service.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an aircraft certification engineer?
To thrive as an Aircraft Certification Engineer, you need a solid background in aerospace engineering, regulatory compliance, and a deep understanding of aviation safety standards, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree and experience in certification processes. Familiarity with FAA/EASA regulations, computer-aided design (CAD) tools, and document management systems is essential. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help you collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and regulatory bodies. Job description
ASI is hiring a Certification Engineer II or III – Electrical Systems.
Tired of the traditional big company culture — rigid schedules, watching the clock, and feeling like another employee number?
At Aerospace Systems International (ASI), we believe there's a better way to work in aviation.
We're an employee-first company built around trust, flexibility, and accountability. We hire talented people, give them meaningful work, and trust them to deliver — without unnecessary micromanagement.
We're looking for a Certification Engineer II or III – Electrical Systems to join our Engineering team supporting the certification of aircraft electrical and avionics systems.
What You'll Do
- Review engineering drawings and designs for compliance with aircraft certification requirements.
- Develop certification plans, test plans, conformity requests, compliance reports, and other certification documentation.
- Support electrical load analysis and certification strategies for electrical and avionics systems.
- Demonstrate compliance with 14 CFR Part 23 and Part 25 requirements.
- Work with FAA/ODA representatives and foreign regulatory authorities on certification planning and issue resolution.
- Coordinate with Engineering, suppliers, customers, and program teams to resolve technical and certification issues.
- For Level III candidates, provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and help lead certification efforts across projects and programs.
What We're Looking For
- Level II: 3+ years of electrical engineering experience and 1+ year of regulatory certification experience focused on Electrical Engineering.
- Level III: 7+ years of electrical engineering experience and 3+ years of Electrical and/or Avionics regulatory certification experience.
- Working knowledge of applicable FAA, EASA, and TCCA certification requirements.
- Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with CATIA V5 or similar CAD tools.
- Experience with electrical bonding/grounding, EMI/HIRF, lightning protection, and Part 23/25 aircraft certification is a plus.
- Approximately 5–10% travel depending on level.
Why ASI?
Our team enjoys:
- Flexible Work Schedules
- Company Paid Holidays
- Hybrid Work (2 days remote, 3 days in office)
- Health, Dental, and Vision benefits
- Life and AD&D Insurance
- 401(k) Retirement Benefits
- Annual Bonus and Profit Sharing
If you're ready to trade some of the big-company bureaucracy for more trust, flexibility, and impact — while continuing to do aviation engineering and certification work — we'd love to talk.
