Aircraft Assembly Structures Mechanic

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking Aircraft Assembly Structures Mechanics (Level B or C) to join our 787 production teams working in North Charleston, South Carolina on a variable shift.
This role offers an exciting opportunity within a dynamic manufacturing assembly environment. Team members will leverage their prior experience, and the knowledge gained from training and certifications to complete daily assigned tasks effectively.
Individuals will be responsible for identifying their work locations on advanced airplanes, parts, and tooling by interpreting intricate drawings to accurately complete detailed work instructions. Attention to detail and procedure compliance is critical to identify all necessary hand tools, parts, and equipment required to ensure defect-free work. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Safety: Adhering strictly to all safety protocols and guidelines to protect ourselves, our colleagues, and our workplace. Safety is non-negotiable and must be integrated into every task we perform.
  • Quality: Maintaining rigorous quality standards in all deliverables, ensuring that our work meets or exceeds expectations and complies with all regulatory and company requirements.

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must successfully complete the new hire foundational training to obtain and maintain all required certifications.
  • Proficient use of a computer in a dynamic production environment.
  • Look up/read/comprehend electronic technical work instructions, drawings and/or specifications.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment determined by the task performed.
  • Operate various mechanical lifts (e.g. ladders, tiger and snorkel lifts).
  • Use various hand tools and diagnostic equipment such as screwdrivers, ratchets, power screwdriver multi meters, continuity testers.
  • Apply chemical solvents, sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, paints and special finishes.
  • Inspect your work quality and check for Foreign Object Debris.
  • Work around energized sources (electrical equipment and hazards/shock, e.g. circuit breakers and wiring) and exposure to constant noise.
  • Finger manipulation (keyboarding, other).
  • Lifting and carrying up to 10-35 pounds.
  • Climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), crawling, crouching (squatting).
  • Flexion/Extension (head bent down, head bent back), handling, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching (overhead), rotation of head/neck, standing, twisting at the waist and walking.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Aerospace Technician and Mechanic Aptitude Virtual Job Tryout: To be considered for this position you will be required to complete an assessment as part of the selection process. You will receive an email invitation at the address you provided in your application. From the date of the invitation, you will have 5 days to complete the assessment. Failure to complete the assessment will remove you from consideration.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • Must have the ability to work variable shifts (first, second, or third) based on business needs.
  • Must be able to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 35 pounds; push/pull using up to 45 pounds of force; and reach overhead up to six hours per day.
  • Must be able to work with high-hazard chemicals using proper protective equipment provided.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain Confined Space and Fall Protection certifications, if required.
  • 1+ year experience using software applications such as internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or other specialized computer applications.
  • 1+ year experience following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications, along with successful completion of training and knowledge assessments involving mathematical calculations, all conducted in English.
  • 1+ year experience in a manufacturing, technical, or mechanical field, including equivalent education or military experience, performing work with basic hand, power, and/or pneumatic (air) tools.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, technical, or mechanical field, including equivalent education or military service.
  • 1+ years of composite experience.
