Job description

THE POSITION Start your journey toward a hands-on career that keeps Pennsylvania moving. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee for the Department of Transportation, you learn to operate equipment that supports safe and reliable roads. You gain real experience while working with a team that values safety and strong work habits.

This role is a great way to grow your abilities and build a future in public service. Check out this video for more information. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This role provides training in equipment operation and roadway maintenance while helping you learn safety practices and work procedures.

It focuses on building skills that support highway and bridge operations. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Training: Train to operate heavy trucks and loaders for maintenance tasks Tool Use: Handle motorized and manual tools to complete laboring duties Safety Practices: Follow procedures to maintain safe conditions for the crew and public Field Adjustments: Make equipment checks and adjustments to ensure safe operation Environmental Duties: Apply environmental protection requirements during maintenance activities Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime and shift work is required.

Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements: This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.

All positions require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work. Additional Requirements: You must be able to perform essential job functions.
