Overview

Delaware’s Largest Cancer Treatment Group- Medical Oncology Hematology Consultants, Newark, DE

We are a private practice comprised of 11 physicians and 10 APPs.  Our mission is to provide quality cancer care to the patients in our local community. We are affiliated with the US Oncology Network, which is one of the nation’s largest networks of integrated, community-based oncology practices that are dedicated to advancing high-quality, evidence-based cancer care.  Our board-certified physicians in Hematology and Medical Oncology, Palliative Care Medicine, and breast surgery have trained and held faculty positions in nationally and internationally recognized academic centers. Our physicians have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases and disorders of the blood and breast.

Job Profile Summary

Under direct supervision, the Research Assistant supports clinical research activities by maintaining accurate and organized patient data logs, collecting research data from initial patient contact through long-term follow-up, and performing clerical and administrative data management functions. This role assists with scheduling patient appointments, preparing records for audits, maintaining research supplies, and entering data into computerized systems. The Research Assistant may also support physicians and nurses with direct patient care tasks and specimen collection, while adhering to all compliance, ethical, and regulatory standards within a clinical research setting.

SCOPE: Under supervision or in collaboration with practice physicians, involved in the care of individuals, families and patient groups who are dealing with cancer or other related diagnosis. This care may be in clinic or virtually, via telemedicine. Responsibilities may include duties related to prevention, screening, patient care, management, and research. May serve as direct caregiver, health care consultant, patient educator, administrator, or researcher. Ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards and requirements. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains patient data files in an organized manner for easy retrieval and review.

  • Collects patient data from initial patient contact through course of therapy, rehabilitation, and long-term care.

  • Assists with scheduling consultations, diagnostic tests or procedures, and future appointments for patients with physicians as requested.

  • Prepares patient records for audits by regulatory, accrediting, and research organizations.

  • Maintains supplies, drugs and storage facilities for clinical research as appropriate.

  • May enter some pertinent data in computer system in a timely manner as outlined by department guidelines.

  • May assist physicians and nurses with direct patient care including vital signs and assisting in procedures.  May assist with collecting and processing specimens for research purposes.


Qualifications

Minimum Job qualification (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
Education/Training -

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • 1 year medical office experience, oncology experience preferred

Business Experience -

  • Experience in Microsoft Office

  • Experience with computer data entry and database management preferred

Specialized Knowledge/Skills-

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Attention to details and accuracy

Working Conditions:

Environment (Office, warehouse, etc.) –

  • Traditional clinic office environment.
