What is an AI program?

AI programs are software applications designed to simulate human intelligence processes such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making. They use algorithms, data, and computational power to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, including language understanding, image recognition, and decision automation. AI programs can be found in various industries, powering technologies like virtual assistants, recommendation systems, and automated customer service. Their capabilities are continually evolving as advancements in machine learning and data processing occur.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in AI program management, and how can they overcome them?

Professionals in AI program management often face challenges such as ensuring effective communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders, managing rapidly evolving project requirements, and staying updated with the latest advancements in AI technologies. To overcome these hurdles, successful AI program managers focus on fostering collaborative team environments, maintaining flexible project plans, and continuously investing in professional development. Regularly aligning goals with stakeholders and encouraging cross-functional learning are also key strategies for managing complexity and driving project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI program manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Program Manager, you need a solid background in computer science, project management, and a strong understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, often supported by a relevant degree and certifications like PMP or Agile. Familiarity with technical tools such as JIRA, Python, machine learning frameworks, and cloud platforms is typically required. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help drive cross-functional teams and manage stakeholder expectations. These abilities are essential for successfully delivering AI projects that meet organizational goals and adapt to rapidly evolving technologies.

  • Partner with Release Management and Operations teams to ensure operational, support, training, compliance, and deployment readiness requirements are met.
  • Drive Jira adoption, dependency tracking, milestone management, and execution transparency across teams.
  • Facilitate governance meetings, program reviews, and cross-functional working sessions.
  • Build and maintain program dashboards, reporting, Confluence documentation, and executive-level status communications.
  • Identify, assess, and proactively manage delivery risks, resource constraints, and cross-team dependencies.

  • Manage compliance and governance workstreams across Shared Services, including Jira SDLC releases, change ticket processing, deployment monitoring, and vulnerability remediation tracking.
  • Oversee due-diligence checkpoints for Jira tollgate artifacts, release readiness, change deployment controls, and post-deployment support across platform and shared-services initiatives.
  • Coordinate weekly vulnerability scan reviews, assignment, remediation follow-up, and executive reporting for patch, configuration, and cloud vulnerabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in Product Management, Program Management, Product Readiness, Delivery Management, or related leadership roles.
  • Strong experience leading complex, cross-functional technology initiatives in enterprise software or financial services environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive execution across matrixed organizations and multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Expertise in program governance, risk management, dependency management, and executive communications.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile development methodologies, Jira, Confluence, and software delivery practices.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing enterprise compliance workstreams across SDLC releases, change management, deployment governance, and vulnerability remediation programs.
  • Proven ability to translate compliance metrics, release controls, and vulnerability remediation status into concise executive updates, dashboards, and action-oriented governance reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience working with AI/ML, GenAI, Copilot, intelligent automation, or data-driven product capabilities from concept through production deployment.
  • Strong understanding of modern AI technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, model evaluation, AI governance, and Responsible AI principles.
  • Experience partnering with Engineering, Architecture, UX, Data Science, Compliance, Security, and Go-to-Market teams to deliver enterprise AI solutions.
  • Financial services and investment management domain expertise, including areas such as portfolio management, trading, investment operations, reconciliations, corporate actions, performance measurement and attribution, derivatives, bank loans, or collateral management.
  • Experience leading large-scale platform, transformation, or modernization initiatives.
