What is an AI Platform Engineer?

AI Platform Engineers are technology professionals who design, build, and maintain the infrastructure that supports the development, deployment, and scaling of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models. They work closely with data scientists and software engineers to ensure that AI solutions can run efficiently and securely in production environments. Their responsibilities often include managing cloud or on-premises platforms, automating workflows, and implementing best practices for model versioning, monitoring, and resource optimization.

How does an AI Platform Engineer typically collaborate with data scientists and software engineers in a project environment?

AI Platform Engineers often serve as a bridge between data scientists and software engineers, ensuring that machine learning models are seamlessly integrated into scalable, production-ready systems. They work closely with data scientists to understand model requirements and deployment needs, and with software engineers to embed these models within applications and services. This collaboration involves frequent communication, joint troubleshooting, and participation in code reviews to maintain a robust and efficient AI infrastructure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI Platform Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Platform Engineer, you need strong programming skills (especially in Python and Java), a background in computer science or related fields, and experience with machine learning frameworks. Familiarity with cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD systems is typically required, along with certifications such as Google Cloud Professional Machine Learning Engineer. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you integrate AI solutions across teams and projects. These competencies ensure the efficient development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable AI systems in dynamic production environments.

What is the difference between Ai Platform Engineer vs Data Engineer?

AI Platform Engineer

Company Overview

Glint Tech Solutions is a women-owned global staffing and IT recruiting firm connecting top technical talent with leading enterprise clients across the United States.

Project Description

Our client, a leading healthcare payor, is seeking an AI Platform Engineer to translate AI reference architectures into secure, scalable cloud configurations across Azure, MuleSoft, and Salesforce Agentforce. The role operationalizes platform standards, automates governance guardrails, and ensures all AI workloads meet enterprise security, compliance, and HIPAA requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Convert AI reference architectures into deployable cloud configurations using Terraform, Bicep, ARM, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Configure and operate Azure OpenAI, AI Foundry, AI Search, MuleSoft integration layers, Salesforce Agentforce, Anthropic, and OpenAI services
  • Build reusable platform components, landing zones, and environment promotion patterns (dev test prod)
  • Translate AI governance policies into technical controls — policy-as-code, Azure Policy, RBAC, network isolation, and data egress restrictions
  • Implement HIPAA, CMS, and Zero Data Retention compliance controls including audit logging and prompt/response logging
  • Deliver paved-path templates, starter kits, and self-service capabilities for development teams
  • Monitor platform health, capacity, and cost; support incident response and continuous improvement
  • Maintain platform documentation, runbooks, and architectural decision records

Mandatory Skills

  • 5+ years of cloud platform engineering with 2+ years on Azure or comparable hyperscaler
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform/Bicep, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and policy-as-code frameworks
  • Working knowledge of Azure OpenAI, AI Foundry, vector databases, and model gateways
  • Experience implementing technical controls for HIPAA, PCI, or similarly regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of identity, networking, encryption, and secrets management in cloud
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Hands-on experience across Azure, MuleSoft, and Salesforce Agentforce
  • Familiarity with NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001, RAG architectures, or agentic AI patterns
  • Healthcare payor or regulated industry background
  • Azure (AZ-305, AZ-400, AI-102), MuleSoft, or Salesforce Agentforce certifications
