Part-time internship
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Intern will support assigned departmental initiatives by participating in projects, business activities, and day-to-day operations that provide practical exposure to how AI and emerging technologies are applied in a corporate environment. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience within a designated functional area while helping the intern develop business knowledge, technical awareness, and professional competencies needed to contribute effectively in a fast-paced organization. The intern will receive an introductory overview of Office/Logistics operations in Medley and Port/Field Operations at POM to gain a broader understanding of the company's operational framework. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
• Candidate must be and remain enrolled in the MDC AI Elite Talent Hub Program throughout the internship and successfully complete all program requirements, including required training, coursework, professional development activities, and any other components established by the MDC AI Elite Talent Hub.
• Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Relevant knowledge or coursework in AI, programming, computer science, or related fields.
• Intermediate skills with MS Office suite, including basic Excel.
• Intermediate to advanced communication skills in English.
• Ability to think logically, follow procedures, and instructions.
• Ability to perform and prioritize various administrative assignments with minimal supervision.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality regarding company information encountered during assigned projects.
• Must have reliable transportation to commute to and from work according to required hours.
• Ability to report to work onsite and on time consistently.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees.
Preferred
• Intermediate to Advanced communication skills in Spanish (verbal and written)
• Experience using Microsoft Copilot preferred; familiarity with ChatGPT, Claude, or similar AI tools is a plus.
• AI-related certification (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft AI, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google AI, or similar) preferred.
• Basic understanding of prompt engineering and responsible AI practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
• Support department AI related initiatives, which may include how the department builds, deploys, adapts, monitors, and use artificial intelligence responsibly to support business processes.
• Support departmental projects by conducting research, organizing information, and preparing simple reports or summaries.
• Assist with day-to-day tasks within the assigned department to support operational needs.
• Participate in onboarding sessions and training activities to build foundational knowledge.
• Gain a basic understanding of company operations through cross departmental tours and shadowing opportunities.
• Observe and learn standard workflows, procedures, and tools used in the company.
• Collaborate with team members to complete assigned tasks and contribute to ongoing initiatives.
• Assist in maintaining documentation, tracking data, or updating internal systems as directed.
• Prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing internship learning and project contributions.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and staff to ensure clarity on tasks, expectations, and deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive business information, operational records, propriety company materials in accordance with company policies.
• Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and a willingness to learn in all assigned activities.
Secondary
• Works on special projects, as required.
• Additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• The employee is continuously required to sit and use his fingers.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Reports directly to the assigned Department Manager, and indirectly to Human Resources. Does not exercise supervision over any other position.
CONDITIONS:
• Indoors office environment most of the time where the exposure is a controlled temperature and office environment.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually busy with many phone conversations going on simultaneously.
• Participate in a supervised port tour that includes brief exposure to outdoor operational areas and varying weather conditions.
