Job Description Summary:

Our Marketing Legal team ensures that consumer-facing communications drive growth within the guardrails of ethical, responsible, and legally sound practices.
As a Senior Paralegal, you will play a critical role in supporting the North America Operating Unit (NAOU) Marketing Function. You'll review a wide spectrum of advertising and promotional materials, identify and escalate regulatory risks, and enable speed-to-market while maintaining compliance with FTC, FDA, and consumer protection regulations. This position blends deep subject matter expertise with a business-oriented approach, operating under attorney supervision in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where agility and precision are essential.

Key Responsibilities
Provide supervised legal and business advice to cross-functional business partners regarding day-to-day marketing legal matters, including promotions and sponsorships, advertising claims, third-party intellectual property rights, digital and social media campaigns, influencer and content creator best practices, basic privacy guardrails (including the collection and use of identifiable consumer data), and emerging issues related to the use of AI in marketing.
  • Review and approve all types of marketing materials across all media channels - including digital, social media, broadcast, print, out-of-home, point-of-sale, packaging, and emerging platforms - for compliance with applicable federal, state, and local advertising and consumer protection laws, FTC Act guidelines, FDA regulations, and third-party intellectual property rights.
  • Identify advertising and marketing claims, including health, wellness, nutritional, and comparative claims.
  • Support the legal team's compliance initiatives by identifying potential legal and regulatory risks in marketing campaigns and proactively escalating issues to attorneys as appropriate.
  • Manage the day-to-day legal review process within the company's review and approval platform ensuring marketing materials proceed efficiently through the approval workflow while maintaining thorough documentation of legal review.
  • Assist the business in the development, drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts that reflect agreed-upon business terms, including but not limited to sponsorship agreements, promotional agreements, influencer, talent agreements.
  • Leverage AI tools and legal technology platforms to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of legal review workflows, marketing compliance processes, and research tasks.
  • Participate in additional cross-functional projects and initiatives as assigned by the legal team.

Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies from an ABA-accredited program, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with a paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program.
Experience & Skills
  • 5+ years of experience as a transactional paralegal, with significant experience in advertising, marketing, and/or consumer products law.
  • Experience in an in-house legal team, preferably within a large consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, or similarly situated company, with the ability to translate legal requirements into practical, scalable guidance for legal and non-legal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience with federal, state, and local consumer protection laws and FDA regulations as they relate to advertising and marketing compliance.
  • Experience using AI-assisted toolsto enhance and simplify legal work in a legal or marketing compliance environment, including reviewing materials, conducting research, issue identification, and managing and designing workflows and identifying opportunities to automate routine marketing legal workflows, while validating AI-generated outputs for accuracy, completeness, consistency with approved legal guidance.
  • Maintains high-quality information and can use basic reporting and analytics to identify trends, workload patterns and opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience using a review and approval platform for marketing materials including managing review workflows, documenting approvals, and maintaining compliance records within the system.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify advertising and marketing claims - including health, nutritional, wellness, environmental, comparative, ingredient, and performance claims.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with continuously evolving demands and competing priorities, demonstrating strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to adjust priorities in response to unanticipated events.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Comfortable learning and using emerging legal technology, workflow automation and AI tools; understands their capabilities and limitations and can appropriately validate technology-assisted work.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to perform tasks in a safe, effective, and quality manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to non-legal business partners.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dealing with changing situations, evolving business needs, and diverse stakeholders across the Marketing Function.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment, exercising initiative and sound judgment under attorney supervision.
