What is an AI Curriculum Developer?

An AI Curriculum Developer is a professional who designs, develops, and updates educational materials and programs focused on artificial intelligence (AI). They create lesson plans, course modules, and instructional content for students, educators, or professionals learning about AI concepts, tools, and applications. Their work often involves collaborating with subject matter experts, integrating the latest advancements in AI, and ensuring that the curriculum meets educational standards and learner needs. AI Curriculum Developers may work in schools, universities, edtech companies, or corporate training environments.

How does an AI Curriculum Developer typically collaborate with subject matter experts and educators during the course design process?

AI Curriculum Developers work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and educators to ensure that course materials are both accurate and pedagogically effective. This collaboration often involves regular meetings to align on learning objectives, reviewing technical content for clarity, and adapting complex AI concepts into accessible lessons. Developers also gather feedback from instructors to refine curriculum components and ensure that materials meet the needs of diverse learners. This teamwork is essential for creating engaging, up-to-date, and practical AI educational resources.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI Curriculum Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Curriculum Developer, you need expertise in artificial intelligence concepts, instructional design, and educational technology, often supported by a degree in computer science, education, or a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), programming languages like Python, and tools for creating digital content such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate 360 is essential. Strong communication, creativity, and collaboration skills help in designing engaging, accessible materials and working with subject matter experts or educators. These skills ensure the development of effective, up-to-date curricula that meet learner needs and industry standards in a rapidly evolving field.

Job description

At Curriculum Associates, we believe in the potential of every child and are changing the face of education technology with award-winning learning programs like i-Ready that serve a third of the nation's K-8 students. For more than 50 years, our commitment to making classrooms better places, serving educators, and supporting accessible learning experiences for all students has driven the continuous improvement of our innovative programs. Our team of more than 2,500 employees is composed of lifelong learners who stand behind this mission, working tirelessly to serve the educational community with world-class programs and support every day.
The Sales Support and AI Advisor II is dedicated to day-to-day AI build work for Curriculum Associates' sales teams-building approved AI-powered tools, prompts, templates, and automations that save reps and leaders time, reduce friction, and give them more time in front of educators. This position picks up build requests from sales team members, delivers and documents the work, supports piloting, and shares proven builds and AI best practices across all six sales areas.
The remaining portion of the role supports the local sales team with field and territory activities by enhancing the team's efforts through prospecting, building strategic relationships, and supporting the successful implementation of Curriculum Associates solutions.
This is a hourly Per Diem (as needed) role with up to 29 hours weekly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Sales AI Enablement (Primary Focus - Approximately 80%)
  • Build AI-powered tools, templates, and automations in Claude that eliminate repetitive work for sales reps and leaders, allowing teams to leverage scalable, prebuilt solutions.
  • Write, test, and refine AI prompts tailored to specific sales workflows and business needs.
  • Deliver short, targeted trainings that help sales teams effectively use AI tools, including prompt-writing techniques and Claude best practices.
  • Execute AI build requests submitted through the Sales_AI Slack channel, delivering completed solutions and documenting outcomes.
  • Capture and share successful prompts, tools, and learnings across all six sales areas so proven solutions can be reused across the organization.
  • Pilot new AI builds with small groups of sales reps and leaders, gather feedback, and continuously improve solutions before broader rollout.

Territory & Field Sales Support (Approximately 20%)
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional service team members.
  • Build relationships with educators in strategic pilot accounts and districts to support successful implementations in partnership with the local sales team.
  • Prospect new schools and districts, understand customer needs, and introduce Curriculum Associates solutions that align to those needs.
  • Conduct virtual and in-person product demonstrations.
  • Develop expertise in Curriculum Associates' products, educational trends, classroom challenges, and instructional best practices.
  • Monitor and respond promptly to internal and external communications.
  • Note: The duties listed above are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Specific assignments may vary based on business needs.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools, especially Claude, including prompt engineering and building reusable projects, templates, and automations.
  • Passion for learning and quickly adopting emerging AI tools and workflows.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Strong knowledge of K-8 education, curriculum, instructional practices, or experience supporting educators is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-focused mindset and the ability to build trust and credibility.
  • Comfortable presenting to and engaging groups of approximately 20-35 participants.
  • Continuous learner who can quickly absorb and apply new concepts.
  • Results-oriented with strong follow-through and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to follow complex processes and directions.
  • Strong decision-making, ownership, and problem-solving skills.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in customer service, sales, teaching, or a combination of these fields.
  • Teaching credential preferred.
  • Previous experience as a classroom teacher, education sales professional, customer support representative, or trainer is preferred.

Travel: 5-10% overnight travel.
This is primarily a remote, AI-focused role, so regular daily territory travel is minimal. Occasional local travel may be required to support conferences, customer events, or other territory needs.
Working Environment: Must be able to lift boxes weighing approximately 30 pounds.
Benefits and Pay Range: Per Diem
Pay Range - This role's range is $26.00 - $39.00 hourly rate. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that Curriculum Associates considers in making compensation decisions based on our Compensation Philosophy. Actual base pay within that range will vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, prior experience and relevant skill sets. At Curriculum Associates, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances for each case. The Company recognizes that minimum wage varies by location and will ensure all compensation decisions comply with applicable state and local laws.
Benefits - Temporary and per diem employees who average, and maintain, at least 30 hours of work per week may become eligible for medical coverage, under the Affordable Care Act, after an initial waiting period. Temporary and per-diem employees working more than 20 hours per week are eligible for twelve paid holidays. All temporary and per-diem employees are eligible for accrued sick time.
