Job Description
The Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) is filling a Building Code Inspector E11 position primarily serving in Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Gratiot and/or Montcalm counties.
This position is responsible for the inspection of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and standards; perform complaint investigations; assist in the review of local enforcing agencies as part of a Performance Evaluation team; perform plan review for residential and small commercial projects.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience
Six years of experience in general building construction as a contractor, skilled trades worker, a person in charge of structural construction, or a combination thereof, including two years of experience as a journey-level, structural, construction, skilled trades worker (such as a carpenter, bricklayer/mason, structural steel worker, etc.).
Alternate Education and Experience
Possession of a license as an architect or professional engineer issued by the State of Michigan may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
Additional Requirements and Information
Upon appointment, individuals must meet the requirements of Act 407 of 2016 and become registered as a building inspector and plan reviewer.
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
