Are you passionate about leading the development of practical AI solutions that can scale across an enterprise environment?

At Corning, we are looking for a Lead AI Engineer to help guide the design, development, implementation, and support of AI-enabled applications, tools, agents, and integrations that support business needs across Corning Optical Communications.This role is part of our Digital & IT organization and is focused on leading technical direction for enterprise AI solutions through architecture, application development, Python, APIs, LLM-enabled solutions, Agile delivery, and platform integration.

This is not a pure research or model-training role. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader who can help guide AI Engineers and Senior AI Engineers while supporting scalable, maintainable, and business-focused AI capabilities. 

What will you do? 

-Lead the design, development, implementation, and support of AI-enabled applications, tools, agents, automations, and integrations.

Define technical direction, architecture, standards, and reusable patterns for enterprise AI solution delivery.

Guide AI Engineers and Senior AI Engineers across multiple AI initiatives, helping ensure quality, scalability, and supportability.

Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate business needs into practical AI solutions.

Support the development of Python-based applications, APIs, JSON integrations, model-connected workflows, and LLM-enabled solutions.Lead or support chatbot, RAG, conversational AI, agentic AI, and AI assistant integration initiatives.

Help create user-friendly interfaces and application experiences for AI agents and tools.Apply Agile methodology to help organize work, manage priorities, and support delivery across the team.

Evaluate technical tradeoffs around scalability, performance, latency, cost, quality, supportability, and risk.

Mentor engineers and help grow the AI engineering capability within COC Digital & IT. 

What do you need to have? 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related technical discipline. 

7+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, AI engineering, application development, platform engineering, automation, integration development, or related technical solution delivery. 

Experience leading technical work, guiding engineers, coordinating projects, or providing architecture and technical direction. 

Strong hands-on background with Python or strong technical understanding of Python-based development. 

Experience working with APIs, JSON payloads, integrations, application development, and service-based solutions 

Experience with AI-enabled applications, LLM-based solutions, chatbots, RAG solutions, agents, automations, or model-connected workflows. 

Experience applying Agile methodology in technical delivery environments. 

Ability to create technical vision, architecture, and implementation direction for complex solutions. 

Strong communication skills with the ability to partner with technical teams, business stakeholders, and leadership. 

Ability to mentor engineers and help improve engineering practices. 

Advanced English communication skills. 

What would be a plus? 

Experience leading enterprise AI, GenAI, chatbot, RAG, or AI assistant initiatives.

Experience with MCP development or agentic AI solution patterns.

Experience with Databricks or Databricks Genie Spaces.

Experience with model-serving endpoints or managed AI services.

Experience with prompt engineering, orchestration patterns, or AI workflow automation.

Experience with tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Codex, or similar AI-assisted development tools.

Cloud experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP.Experience defining reusable architecture patterns, technical standards, or engineering governance.

Experience in manufacturing technology, enterprise software, automation, workflow platforms, internal productivity platforms, or cloud/data platform engineering.People management, technical lead, or project leadership experience
