Cybersecurity, Privacy & AI Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Cybersecurity, Privacy & AI Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Boston, MA; Los Angeles, CA; or San Francisco, CA.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 4-7 years of experience to join a nationally recognized Cybersecurity, Privacy & AI practice. The team advises leading global companies on cutting-edge privacy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence matters, including regulatory compliance, governance, product counseling, mergers and acquisitions, data breach response, litigation, investigations, and complex commercial transactions.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on compliance with federal, state, and international privacy and cybersecurity laws.

  • Counsel clients on privacy, cybersecurity, and AI issues arising in product development, governance programs, and commercial transactions.

  • Conduct privacy and cybersecurity due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, financings, and other strategic transactions.

  • Advise on AI governance, machine learning, biometrics, and other emerging data-driven technologies.

  • Assist clients with data breach investigations, incident response, and cybersecurity preparedness.

  • Represent clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement matters involving privacy and cybersecurity laws.

  • Support complex privacy, cybersecurity, and AI-related litigation matters.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on sophisticated domestic and cross-border matters.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active membership in a U.S. state bar.

  • 4-7 years of cybersecurity, privacy, and technology law experience.

  • Experience advising clients on federal and state privacy laws and conducting privacy due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, financings, and commercial transactions.

  • Working knowledge of AI, machine learning, biometrics, and related regulatory frameworks.

  • Familiarity with GDPR, UK GDPR, and international data transfer requirements is preferred.

  • Familiarity with HIPAA, ECPA, the Patriot Act/Cloud Act, and related privacy laws is a plus.

  • Experience with data breach response and regulatory investigations involving agencies such as the FTC, SEC, OCR/HHS, state attorneys general, or international regulators is a plus.

  • Large law firm experience is required.

  • Excellent drafting, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
