Ai Apprenticeship Program information

What is an AI apprenticeship program?

An AI Apprenticeship Program is a structured learning and work experience initiative designed to help individuals develop practical skills in artificial intelligence. These programs typically combine classroom instruction with hands-on, real-world projects under the guidance of experienced mentors. Participants gain exposure to AI concepts such as machine learning, data analysis, and programming, often leading to certifications or job placements in the AI field. The goal is to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs, making participants job-ready for AI roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an AI apprenticeship program?

To thrive in an AI Apprenticeship Program, a strong background in mathematics, programming (commonly Python), and foundational knowledge of machine learning concepts is essential. Familiarity with technical tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Jupyter Notebooks, and version control systems, as well as participation in relevant online courses or certifications, is typically expected. Curiosity, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help apprentices learn quickly and work collaboratively on complex projects. These skills and qualities enable participants to adapt to evolving AI technologies and contribute meaningfully within real-world AI development environments.

What types of projects or hands-on experiences can I expect during an AI apprenticeship program?

During an AI Apprenticeship Program, participants typically work on real-world projects such as developing machine learning models, analyzing large datasets, or building AI-powered applications. Apprentices often collaborate with experienced mentors and cross-functional teams, gaining exposure to both the technical and business aspects of AI solutions. These practical experiences are designed to build both foundational skills and specialized knowledge, preparing apprentices for future roles in the AI field. Additionally, participants may rotate between different projects or departments to broaden their understanding and network within the organization.

Job description

Amazon's Middle Mile Fleet Management business is scaling fast, and preventive maintenance is central to how we keep it running. If you want to take an established program to the next level of maturity - bringing rigor, data, and mechanisms to a business that already moves at Amazon scale - this is the place for you.
The Middle Mile organization operates and maintains a large, growing fleet of over 100,000 assets - tractors, trailers, box trucks, and hostlers. In this role you will raise the bar on how we maintain those assets, wearing many hats in a highly collaborative environment. This role requires strong leadership, the ability to identify trends with limited data, and the influence to align teams across Amazon to advance our maintenance business.
This Program Manager will own the vision, roadmap, and end-to-end execution of Amazon's Preventive Maintenance (PM) strategy for the Middle Mile fleet. Preventive maintenance is the single largest lever we have to maximize asset uptime, reduce unplanned breakdowns, extend asset life, and lower total cost of ownership across the fleet.
Key job responsibilities
Own the PM strategy and roadmap. Define the multi-year vision for scheduled maintenance across tractors, trailers, box trucks, and hostlers - setting the PM cadence, compliance targets, and completion standards that maximize uptime while balancing shop capacity, network availability, and cost.
Drive measurable reliability outcomes. Move the metrics that matter - VORR/uptime, PM and PMDOT compliance, MTBF/MTBG, unplanned downtime, and cost per mile - using data to catch failure trends before they become breakdowns.
Smooth and optimize PM volume. Work backwards from network demand and shop capacity to level PM workload across the year, including peak-period planning, so maintenance stays on schedule without disrupting operations.
Own and build the reliability tooling. Build the AI-driven mechanisms - automated WBR pipelines, QuickSight downtime dashboards, and deep-dive generation - that surface failure trends and drive the right maintenance actions at scale.
Hold vendors and OEMs accountable. Enforce quality through data-driven scorecards and 3rd-party audits, feeding reliability learnings into future asset purchases.
Influence across the org. Align Operations, Finance, Capital Planning, vendor networks, and senior leadership - balancing long-term strategy with day-to-day execution.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of driving process improvements experience
- Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field
- Knowledge of general AI tools
- Experience designing, implementing, and scaling upskilling, apprenticeship, or workforce development programs across large-scale operations or corporate environments, including forecasting workforce needs and leveraging analytics to drive program decisions
