Ai Alignment information

What is AI alignment?

AI alignment refers to the process of ensuring that artificial intelligence systems act in ways that are aligned with human values, intentions, and ethical standards. This field focuses on designing AI models that not only achieve their objectives but also do so safely and beneficially for humanity. As AI systems become more advanced, alignment becomes increasingly important to prevent unintended consequences or harmful behaviors. Researchers in AI alignment work on technical solutions, such as value learning and interpretability, as well as broader ethical and policy considerations.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in AI alignment roles?

Professionals in AI alignment roles often encounter the challenge of translating complex ethical principles and human values into machine-understandable objectives. Balancing technical constraints with theoretical considerations requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including ethicists, engineers, and product managers. Additionally, the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence demands continuous learning to stay current with new alignment techniques and research findings. Navigating these challenges can be intellectually stimulating and offers significant opportunities for interdisciplinary growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI alignment specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Alignment Specialist, you need a strong background in computer science, mathematics, and machine learning, often evidenced by an advanced degree in a related field. Familiarity with technical tools such as Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and formal verification systems is typically required, along with understanding of AI safety principles. Analytical thinking, ethical reasoning, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure that AI systems are developed safely, ethically, and in alignment with human values, which is essential for mitigating risks associated with advanced AI.

Job description

About Curiouser

Curiouser is a human-intelligence company building an ecosystem that helps people and organizations think more clearly, develop more original ideas, and become more influential.

We believe AI can help all of us become better, more capable, and more successful versions of ourselvesโ€”strengthening critical thinking, creating jobs, and elevating humanity.

Our ecosystem includes Looking-Glass, our Reflective AI thinking platform; enterprise thought-leadership and strategic advisory services; teaching and experimentation informed by our founderโ€™s work at UC Berkeley; and the publication of books and ideas.

We are a 20-person, majority-women organization. Our team works remotely and comes together virtually every day to collaborate, exchange ideas, and build the company. We are small, curious, highly collaborative, and united by the belief that AI should expand human potentialโ€”not diminish or replace it.

Curiouser is selecting two or three curious, ambitious people for our inaugural AI Thought Leadership Fellowship. This is not a conventional social-media internship. You will not spend your time mechanically posting corporate content or using AI to generate generic copy.

Instead, you will learn how to use AI as a thinking partner. You will develop an original point of view, strengthen your writing, create thoughtful content, participate in meaningful conversations, and begin building a professional reputation around ideas that genuinely matter to you.

You will be trained directly by Curiouser founder and CEO Stephen Klein, a three-time entrepreneur who teaches marketing and AI at UC Berkeley. You will also receive full access to Looking-Glass and become an expert user of the product.

At the same time, you will help Curiouser expand its organic social presence, learn how different audiences respond to our ideas, and introduce more people to a vision of AI built around human growth rather than human replacement.

The fellowship is remote and requires approximately five to six hours per week for 10โ€“12 weeks.

Success means that you finish the fellowship with:

  • A clearer and more distinctive professional point of view
  • A portfolio of intelligent, original published work
  • Practical experience using AI for thinking, writing, and marketing
  • A stronger professional network and the beginnings of a relevant audience
  • A sophisticated understanding of Reflective AI and the Looking-Glass product
  • Experience contributing to the growth of an early-stage AI company

For Curiouser, success means generating meaningful conversations, relationships, product interest, and awareness, not merely accumulating impressions, likes, or followers.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in training on Reflective AI, thought leadership, positioning, writing, and organic audience development

  • Learn how Looking-Glass works and become a knowledgeable, sophisticated user and ambassador for the product

  • Identify the subjects, ideas, and questions about which you genuinely want to become known. What topics matter to you? What do you believe in?

  • Use Looking-Glass to explore those ideas, question your assumptions, and develop original content. Write and publish thoughtful content on LinkedIn and potentially other relevant platforms

  • Participate meaningfully in conversations related to AI, creativity, careers, entrepreneurship, marketing, leadership, and the future of work

  • Interview customers, team members, and outside thinkers to uncover useful stories and insights

  • Experiment with different ideas, formats, hooks, and methods of audience engagement

  • Identify communities, conversations, creators, and potential collaborators aligned with Curiouserโ€™s mission

  • Participate consistently in coaching, feedback, and collaborative working sessions

Qualifications

We care more about curiosity, potential, and commitment than credentials or previous experience.

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Are genuinely curious about AI, ideas, writing, marketing, entrepreneurship, or the future of work
  • Want to develop a public voice but may not yet know how or where to begin
  • Enjoy questioning assumptions and exploring unconventional ideas
  • Communicate clearly and want to become a stronger writer and thinker
  • Are willing to express an original point of view rather than repeat what everyone else is saying
  • Can receive thoughtful feedback while retaining your own judgment and voice
  • Are comfortable experimenting, learning publicly, and occasionally being wrong
  • Are dependable and able to make a consistent weekly commitment
  • Are willing to publish regularly under your own name
  • Are comfortable creating videos
  • Want to use AI to strengthen your intelligence and creativity, not replace them
  • No particular degree, major, certification, previous audience, or professional experience is required.

To apply, please send:

A short introduction to who you are

An idea, subject, or question you cannot stop thinking about

A brief explanation of why you want to develop a public voice

A link to something you have written or created, if available

Please do not send us a generic AI-generated cover letter. We are much more interested in discovering how you actually think. We love AI but not as a replacement for you, as a partner.
