Seasonal Mosquito Laboratory & Trapping Technician

Clarke of Roselle, IL is seeking to hire a seasonal Mosquito Laboratory & Trapping Technician to support mosquito surveillance and West Nile Virus (WNV) monitoring efforts in local communities. The role involves traveling to mosquito trap sites to collect samples and processing them in the laboratory. Data from these collections are used to monitor mosquito populations, detect WNV activity, predict mosquito trends, and guide timely control treatments that protect public health. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working both outdoors and in a laboratory setting, and have an interest in public health, environmental sustainability, and applied field research. It is an excellent opportunity to build technical, scientific, and communication skills while gaining hands-on experience in mosquito control operations. WORK SCHEDULE AND SALARY

  • Starting at $16/hr
  • Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm with flexibility as appropriate
  • Weekly duties will include a combination of lab work and field collections
  • Full-time seasonal position (generally May – End of September)

QUALIFICATIONS FOR LABORATORY & TRAPPING TECHNICIAN

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a valid Driver's License with an excellent driving record
  • Background in Biology, Entomology, Environmental Science or related field preferred
  • Recent graduate from an accredited University or College preferred, or experience equivalent to degree
  • Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Required to pass the Illinois Department of Agriculture General Standards Exam (training provided)
  • Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms
  • This position may qualify for internship credit with the university's approval

RESPONSIBILITIES OF LABORATORY & TRAPPING TECHNICIAN

  • Monitor/collect surveillance traps in an assigned region
  • Prepare adult mosquito collections for virus testing
  • Sort and count mosquito samples
  • Perform timely and accurate data entry
  • Legibly record all data as work is completed
  • Ability to recognize and troubleshoot issues in field and lab settings
  • Surveillance equipment preparation, inventory, and organization
