About the Role:

The Senior Forester is responsible for the planning, execution, coordination, scheduling, monitoring, inspection and quality control of all Vegetation Management related work, either contracted or completed by internal employees. This position ensures that work is completed in a safe, efficient, and expeditious manner.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide leadership and ensure adherence to Health & Safety principals, practices, work methods, and standards 

  • Participate in project planning site visits, team meetings, route/site selection, and collaborate on landowner/indigenous relations concerns

  • Monitor construction progress, estimate resource requirements, escalates concerns, and schedule work in accordance with the approved project schedule

  • Liaison on design, site issues, and scope of work

  • Ensure completion and submission of vegetation management packages (patrols) and project turnover packages

  • Participate in and/or responsible for the development of cost estimates, contracts, and project bid packages

  • Monitor and ensure completion of work in accordance with management prescriptions, Landowner consents/drawings, standards, policies, practices, release packages, 3rd party agreements, and terms of contracts

  • Provide updates on project status, budgets, forecasts, and operations

  • Review and approve contractor timecards, invoices, change requests, quality control, etc.

  • Travel and work away from home base may be required up to 75% of the time

What You'll Bring:

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree in forestry, utility vegetation management, or environmental science or a technology (Technologist) diploma from a recognized Canadian university or institute of technology

  • Registration as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or a Registered Professional Forest Technologist (RPFT), Certified Utility Arborist, or Certified Utility Vegetation Management Professional

  • Vegetation management, forestry or related industry experience is an asset

  • Minimum of 5-year(s) related experience 

  • Contractor and Contract management and administration experience

  • Experience working on large projects over $1M dollars and working with many contractors at once is an asset

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset

  • Experience in Forestry and/or construction operations around timber salvage, access construction and watercourse crossing, and pipeline crossing construction is an asset

  • Valid class 5 Driver's License

  • Keen understanding of business processes, budget development, business planning and financial management

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment while meeting multiple demands and priorities

  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to establish strong collaborative working relationships across teams, work groups, indigenous communities, and contractors 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word, and Excel
