As a major supplier of aggregates in Nebraska since 1921, Central Sand and Gravel Company, A CRH Company, has a long history as a mainstay of construction and development projects throughout the state - even supplying aggregates for one of Nebraska's very first concrete paving projects.
Position Overview
The Aggregate Truck Driver is responsible for the transportation of aggregates from rock quarries and gravel pits to various locations and customer job sites. This position will primarily be driving a Dump Truck and Pup Trailer but may occasionally drive other types of commercial vehicles.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures as well as in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, MSHA, etc.
  • Must be able to safely operate truck and trailer combination (Pup and Truck).
  • Operate tarp mechanism to cover and uncover box on truck and on trailer before and/or after each load.
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation requirements including but not limited to licensing, vehicle inspection, and hours of service.
  • Operates truck in safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, in the yard area and at various job sites to deliver materials.
  • Drive in traffic and maneuver truck, including backing safely, to load and unload aggregate.
  • Inspects the truck as required at the start and end of each workday, completing the pre and post trip inspection and the Check-off Sheet which indicates that all systems are functioning properly. This includes inspecting under the hood of the vehicle, the trailer, tires, lights and other parts of the vehicle to verify it is in safe operating condition and complies with safe operating standards.
  • Spray surfaces of truck with truck wash compound to clean truck and trailer in accordance with company standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 1 to 2 years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in building materials/construction industry preferred.

Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must report to the plant dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class A CDL (commercial driver's license.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Medical Card as per DOT requirements.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to utilize a tablet for time keeping, training and other items.
  • Demonstrate a hands-on, collaborative approach; work well in a team and independently.
  • Ability to read and comprehend policies, instructions, plant site maps, city street maps and other GPS based equipment information.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.

  • Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers to manipulate/handle objects, lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders or stairs and/or lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly communicate with others by text-based communication, telecommunication and in person.
  • Regularly make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp or manipulate switches and controls.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
