Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 Base Salary
Annual Bonus: 15% cash and 15% equity bonus

Pierce County Recycling, Composting and Disposal (LRI), a Waste Connections company, is seeking a Transfer Station & Compost Operations Manager to lead operations at our Purdy Transfer Station and Compost Facility in Gig Harbor, Washington. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on operations leader ready to manage a critical environmental services facility while building a long-term career with an industry leader known for promoting from within.

What You'll Do

As the Transfer Station & Compost Operations Manager, you will lead the daily operations of a busy transfer station and composting facility, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient performance while developing a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop facility employees while fostering a strong culture of safety and accountability.
  • Manage workforce and equipment scheduling to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors performing site projects and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor operating metrics, productivity, and budgets while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, environmental regulations, OSHA requirements, and Environmental Management System (EMS) standards.
  • Partner with the District Manager to establish both short-term and long-term operational goals.
  • Manage facility financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, labor costs, equipment utilization, and P&L accountability.
  • Build positive relationships with customers, county officials, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Support environmental compliance initiatives and maintain strong working relationships with state and local regulators.
  • Complete Compost Facility Operator Training (CFOT/COTC) within the first year to gain expertise in compost operations.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
  • Supervisory or management experience within the solid waste, recycling, composting, transfer station, landfill, environmental services, or related industries.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience developing, coaching, and holding teams accountable.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, and P&L performance.
  • Ability and willingness to work in outdoor operational environments year-round.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Willingness to relocate in the future to pursue career advancement opportunities within Waste Connections.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Environmental Science, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and environmental compliance programs.
  • Experience managing heavy equipment operations, transfer stations, compost facilities, or industrial operations.
