Job description

*Onsite role based at our Ann Arbor, MI site*

What you will accomplish together with us:

  • Develop mechanical designs for new laboratory products
  • Prototype mechanical designs in-house using commercial 3D printers and metalworking machinery
  • Partner with machine shops and manufacturing houses to produce parts for Sartorius instruments, coordinating technical communication to ensure adherence to design specifications
  • Develop test protocols, execute test cases and write test reports during prototyping and product verification
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists during design integration activities to overcome design challenges
  • Participate in design transfer to production; draft and maintain assembly work instructions and specifications; support manufacturing line start-up and troubleshooting under guidance
  • Conduct engineering analyses (structural, thermal, vibration, corrosion) and drive data-based decisions

What will convince us:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or higher education required
  • 7+ years of experience developing laboratory products and instrumentation
  • Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applied mechanical engineering in product design and verification
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively regarding ideas and mechanical engineering concepts to other individuals and teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have hands‑on work experience that involve using tools, machines, soldering equipment, etc. to build and test mechanical systems
